Wow, my sailor returns to Monterey tomorrow and now we just have to look forward to his graduation in early February if and when he passes the DLPT. It's been a long 19 months for sure and can't wait for him to report to his first duty station where he'll spend some more time training. I just pray he remains focus on his goals and stays just as motivated and excited about his decision to serve in the Navy. After he reports to Georgia for his training don't know how long it will be to find out if he will remain stationed there or end up stationed in Maryland. Can't wait for all this training to be over and finally have him settled down, though he isn't complaining :-)

Congrats KCMom!
I too understand the joy of Grandparentage. I was 45 when my first grandbaby was born. Grandbaby number six is expected in March and I am thrilled! Her name will be Natalie. That old saying, "I wish I could have had the Grandkids first!" Is so true. They are an absolute blast!

Congrats! KCmom.  Totally agree with Dee - wasn't sure I wanted to be a young grandma either but we arrived in Monterey on Granddaughter's 4th birthday & stayed thru Christmas. Granddaughter #2 is a delight as well. Being young to keep up with them is definitely an advantage!  CTI son & family couldn't come home because he has to put in the time studying. Next unit is large & difficult.  Got to see Monterey, Carmel, 17 mile coast tour, & the DLI base as well as the Post Graduate School where some of the guys go to work out. Guess that's where the better gym is. Of course, we had to stop at the base PX & get a DLI t-shirt! Wouldn't be proud parents without flaunting it alittle! Happy New Year to you all & all our best wishes to yours studying!

Congrats KCsmom!! I found out I was the step mom of an 18 year old when I was 37. I threatened him to not make me a grandma. He held off for 7 years. It was still tough, but he is awfully fun. I have a 12 year old, so I get it.

My oldest son is in boot camp. He graduates on jan18 and then heads to Monterey. Excited for him and looking forward to all your veteran advice:)

Dee- that's a good way to look at it, and my sister became a gramma at 43 too. It's all good I guess but still hope it's a few years! My youngest is only 9!

My CTI son (navy) asked his  CTI girlfriend (Air Force) to marry himlast night for new years..... she said yes. Wow, when my son went to Monterey, we never in a million years expected him to meet someone. She's beautiful, nice and a CTI- same language as him. So happy for both of them. I was afraid after DLI they might go their separate ways but apparently neither one of them wants to do that. Now, they just have to hope they can be stationed together after they are married.  Oh, and they are absolutely NOT allowed to have children- I am much too young to be a grandma! ahaha.

That's great to hear Jangles. Your sailor will be in phase one for a short time, which just means he will be in uniform whenever he leaves the barracks. Eventually through the phases he will be able to wear civilian clothes and eventually leave base and stay out later etc. the accomodations are really decent for the Navy. Other services have different style dorms. Good luck to your sailor and Happy New Years to you :-)
