TxNavyDad, so glad to hear from you again! Yes you have a cadre of people over here supporting you and your son. I am only sorry that this paperwork snafu could have been handled rather easily by the recruiter as checking every single detail is key. I am a college Dean and know that Official transcripts are the only way to go. You know the problem now and that is quite correctable. I anticipate seeing your son in Monterey in the very near future.
I will not be going to graduation Friday as I have my 93 year old mom here in LA but I look forward to seeing my son late Friday evening in his dress blues. Then home for a few days and off to Monterey where I hope he can soon find married housing somewhere nearby for him and his wife.
I know CTIs work hard but they will learn new languages and new skills to help them (and their country). I don't believe we are ever supposed to name the language(s) they are learning, even if we knew it.
I look forward to meeting many of you family hopefully in the near future in Monterey. If not, we can keep in touch right here. Bless you all and have a great holiday season!
Doc Renee
UPDATE everyone...
We got the phone call Monday night (Dec.17) from our son and he is finally leaving GL tomorrow flying home. I have been spending most of my webtime over on the Ship 5 page with the others being separated and offering support there. I know some of you have been very supportive with your prayers and words of wisdom and for that we thank you deeply. We all are truly a Navy family who supports one another. My son is talking very positively about reenlisting and still going after his linguist job. He really likes that sort of thing. So after 6 months, we will be back in here I'm sure.
He WAS on Ship 13/Div Ø68 before he was separated.
To be exact, his college transcripts were the UN-official ones, NOT the OFFICIAL ones with the college seal and Presidents signature. For that reason he was separated. After checking further, since CTI does NOT require college, CTI does require that ALL paperwork be correct when being submitted from the beginning due to the high levels of security clearance required. A faxed or mailed copy will not work. This information your recruiter is supposed to know and double check before submitting.
Since my son had to go thru all this separation mess, it was all for an admin paperwork snafu, created by his recruiter of all people.
So.. that being said, I hope NONE of you end up with separation due to an admin paperwork issue or any reason.
Again, Thanks to everyone for all your support and prayers. they have worked.
As much as this has been a very traumatic roller coaster ride of emotion, we are glad to have our SR home for a few months anyway.
Now don't get the impression that this is adios, OH NO!! I will be back to give support to those with the knowledge I have attained before my son was separated.
Thanks again family and God Bless!!
My son did not pick Spanish either. I don't know what he got. But he did say he was VERY excited for the opportunities he will have.
I know how you feel jangles. My son is coming home on Friday too, but from DLI. He has just a few days of leave and then he flies back the following week. It will be great to have him home for Christmas. He loves it in Monterey but says it's a lot of hard work. He's wishing he had picked Spanish as his language...
I am so excited to see my son on Friday and bring him home, then send him off to Monterey to DLI school so they can train him to be a CTI. What an opportunity for our son. We are so proud of him we can hardly wait to see him.
@Lili If the recruiter is sharing ANY lists with the people you just listed and you can prove it, that's a huge security breach! I better not find out that my son's recruiter is doing that. IF he's doing that, he's not only compromising your sons identity, but your as well if you are listed on his any of his paperwork.
That's if he is really is doing that.
TxNavyDad, I would check with the recruiter's CO, to get the straight story.
@Okie... Those are all excellent questions! Let me add one more to the mix... "If they were so important that they needed to send him to ship 5, why in the hell didn't they call his college and request the transcripts be faxed to GL? That's got me so PO'ed I can't see straight. Why put our son thru all this over a friggen price of paper which could have already been faxed, he would still be in bc moving on towards his goal at DLI? I highly suspect recruiter malfunction, specifically to get the numbers up. CTI is a guaranteed job once you pass all the tests which he did with scores far above the required.
So... I'm as much in the dark about this as you. Don't get me wrong, I'm am so happy that our son will be coming for Christmas, but I'm mad as hell he had to go thru all this bs cuz of somebody elses screw up. Reenlistment remains to be seen. We are not going to bug him about and he wants to discuss it, we will. We just him home to unwind, relax and enjoy the holidays. He will have time to re-evaluate his future, knowing he has a good reenlistment code and options.
It's funny his recruiter hasn't returned ANY of my calls. I guess it's time for another face to face to get what his cohorts in the office say he doesn't have... answers.
Tx Navy Dad- I don't get it. Why do they need his official college transcripts? You don't need a college degree, nor any amount of college to be a CTI. It does help with rank, but otherwise, it isn't mandatory. His recruiter really should have taken care of this before he went in. Sad, but glad he can go back in if he wants.
