Hi.  My son graduated 7/13 and is in CTI.  He is already done with Phase ll.  Usually takes 6-8 weeks to get to Phase lll if he passes everything. It is like an extension of BC. Yes they have Thanksgiving and Christmas off.  A School breaks for holiday.  They will have to use leave if they are leaving the base though. Christmas I know is two weeks not sure about Thanksgiving. Yes they can have cell phones and computers.  My son calls almost everyday.  After A school depending on his language he will probably due cryptology for 6 months before getting stationed somewhere.  That is all I know at this point.

Hi little bubble. Wow you have great questions and I will try to answer as best I can since my sailor son is still at DLI and has a good 6 months left.
1. Phase: you may be safe. It took my son about a month to make it through his phase. You'll definitely get that info from your sailor before you head to San Jose.
2. Thanksgiving: my son was in class til Weds noon. The unit was kind enough to give him a 4-day pass and he came home. I heard they are more lenient with sailors in the long classes. My sailor is in a 18-month course.
Hopefully I my answers to 1& 2 help you out.

Hi Conor's mom.  My son got there 7/13 and he passed Phase 2 this past week. He was allowed out to twelve on the weekend. There letters are addressed as SN Last Name, First Name, Initial and then basically the same as BC.  Except they will have a building and room number. This address is temorary -my son said he would be there for about a month before he gets his permanent room. Hope that helps.

Its my undersyanding that Phasing up depends on how quickly the new group gets their tasks done. They have so long to get these done as a group. My daughter arrived on 7/1/12 to Monterey and they have all three phases done this past weekend and she now has full liberty. Your son will give you his new address when he can receive packages and also tell you how to address him

Hi everyone,

My son just arrived in Monterey this weekend, fresh out of BC.  Does anyone know how to best address a package to him?  Also, now that he is no longer a SR, what do call them?

Finally, how long does it typically take for them to advance to phase 1 and phase 2?

Thanks in advance!!

Thank you all for helping me understand.  I hope it works out for him.  He seemed excited about it.

I also read recently that a Sailor who was behind in class due to an injury was being put into another language and was trying to appeal it, because he had nearly perfect scores in his language of choice.  I have not heard how that played out.  If that mom is out there maybe you could let us know the outcome.

From speaking with my son this seems to be the scenario.  If you are in one of the top tier languages (scoring over 109 DLAB) you will most likely not be changed expect to perhaps another language in that tier, but that is highly unlikely.  This would only happen if they had a high failure rate and needed to fill more slots because these are highly vital languages right now.  So, according to him that makes movement in the top tier more secure.  In the less vital languages if they need to shift to fill a class they will.
