Dee, Congrats, is it Grandma or something else? Adorable
Congrats Dee. She is adorable. God Bless you all!
Beautiful, Dee. Congratulations.
SarahsMom, They do usually get two weeks at Christmas. But if she travels home for those two weeks, she will get charged leave for the entire time. I just wanted to make sure you didn't think she would only get charged one week of leave.
IndyMom, my daughter has been at Monterey for 3 weeks now. When she flew out on the 9th, I became sad all over again just as I did when she left for boot camp eight weeks before. I think I was more emotional as I realized, the "temporary" phase of boot camp and knowing when I would see her next was over. Now she is truley in her new life and routine and I have to let her grow up. Not a very easy thing to do. The first week was rough.
Then as I was able to talk to her everyday, get her updates on what was happening the realization of her true excitement and happiness and all the opportunites she has before her. This helped all of my sadness to disapate.
We have started planning our first visit to Monterey on Labor Day so I can now focus on that and the excitement of that opportunity and then there is Christmas. I understand from my Sailor the get 2 weeks at Christmas. I week is leave and the other is just time off not counted towards their leave days. So after our Labor Day visit we will refocus on Christmas. I think this is how we get past the missing them by looking forward to our next visit.
Thanks for the info...it will come in handy.
My son has had a desktop the whole time he's been there. It's not been a problem for him to move it. He's always had one roommate, but has had two different rooms so far. I think the television is superfluous. They can watch TV in the common area or watch programs online. I don't know about the cost of cable, or if it's even available. I do know that my sailor pays about $40 a month for internet. He tried using the WiFi, but it was too slow.
They dont have a lot of room, If you are lucky you might get a single but not much chance,, some places have two in them, some three sharing in as much room as the twos, they have a communial room with a tv, they dont really have much time for it as the kids there work really hard and it is very fast paced so they are studying most of the time, a desktop would be a lot for him to move around, dont know about printers.
