Sorry I posted this earlier but forgot to add a title:

My daughter called from boot camp today and unfortunately we missed her call. She called to say CTN is overmanned and she was told she needs to reclassifiy and was calling to ask for our input. This is heart breaking for her I know after being in DEP since last September with CTN as her rating of choice. What's going on with this rating? I'm a retired CTNC and it's very difficult for me to encourage others to enlist when potential sailors are treated this way....with two weeks left to graduate??

Why would he look at Nuke instead if CTN? I'm obviously a total newbie....
My son really wanted to do Nuke and had the scores to do it. When he went to MEPS, they found out he was colorblind, which knocks you out of nuke and a lot of other rates. My son had planned to go to college for Nuclear Engineering and all the people he talked to that worked in that area had been former Navy Nukes. There is also a very nice bonus that they get if they sign on for additional time after their original 6 years. The school is said to be extremely stressful, though. My SR was very disappointed that he was unable to follow his dream, but is now quite happy with CTN. We shall see if it turns out to be something he really likes.
We just met with my son's recruiter and it does look like he'll be doing Nukes. Since that is what they seem to be pushing for and it has some benefits - my son is majoring in Physics so I think this will help him, thank you for your help.
