My Son did have a car, it was a good thing ... the base is far from everything and it's much safer for them to drive than walk to the beach and to town.  Just remind him that a ticket for speeding or any infraction off base would get him kicked out…Continue

Ha ha clockard, I know it's gonna be a busy 6 months.

momoffour, isn't skype great?!  I skyped with my son on Thanksgiving.  I'm really looking forward to seeing him on Christmas!  clockard, he says their leave won't actually be approved until a week before.  Is there any reason why it would not be approved?

Spookmom, that's great! Hopefully it all works out and he'll get to class up asap. The nice thing that I've heard about Corry is that you class up and phase up quickly. Apparently because of the demographics of the CT's they are given a bit more freedom than at other A schools. I have about three months until I PCS to Pensacola. I really can't wait to see how everything goes!

Momoffour, glad to hear you got to skype with your sailor. I've heard how CTN schooling is very tough, but he seems to be in good spirits talking about their abundance of cookies. :)

JonesToBe, my son is doing just fine.  He's been a little bored waiting to class up, but he's supposed to start class Monday if he can get his security badge that morning.

Comment by momoffour(Ship 11 div 119) on November 19, 2012 at 9:49am
Totally excited now because I got to Skype with him and I now have an address to send him a box, he said they get pretty much everything they need. He said no cookies because they are overloaded with them this time of the year and everyone just puts them out to share. He does look tired, they work seven days a week, no days off, even holidays, we are hoping to Skype again on Thanksgiving.

Thank you for your responses everyone. I feel a lot better knowing they have accepted new people to Corry. He is signed for 6 years and has been guaranteed his position. He discussed alternative rates just in case, but we're now more confident that all will go as planned. How is Corry treating your son, spookmom? My depper is pretty nervous about the schooling, but I know he'll do great. His brain is just wired like a CTN's would need to be. Hope all is well with everyone and their sailors.

Comment by spookmom (ship 14 div 367) on November 11, 2012 at 8:22pm

My son arrived at Corry yesterday so I assume all is going as planned.  Jones, I would suggest your depper gets what he wants in writing, but still have a "Plan B" in case it doesn't happen.  My son signed on for 6 years to get his A and C school "guaranteed."  If they didn't give him what he wanted he had the option to leave the Navy.

I know I was stressing about but kid being deployed but pleased that I have already gotten an email and talked to him on Facebook briefly. Hopefully will get am address soon to send him a box of goodies!

I don't know, Jones.  I've been trying to find out something, but getting nowhere.  My son's recruiter hasn't heard anything about it.  My son graduates boot camp next week and so far they haven't mentioned reclassifying.

Comment by JenBo on October 30, 2012 at 1:06pm

Does anybody know what's going on with the CTN rate? Everyone has been saying it's full and that people are being forced to reclassify. I have a CTN depper, so I'm wondering if this will be the case when he ships in mid January. Is this about the fiscal year or will it continue into 2013?
