My Son did have a car, it was a good thing ... the base is far from everything and it's much safer for them to drive than walk to the beach and to town.  Just remind him that a ticket for speeding or any infraction off base would get him kicked out…Continue

ekauwe - CTN is probably the best job in the Navy.  Yea, alot of people want Nuke, but once you realize the numerous hours that you are required to work, along with the quals that you must maintain, you'll come to realize that CTN is where it's all at.  The last ones off a ship are the Nuke, the 1st ones back on are the Nukes.  So while they are working their @ss off, we (the CT's) are on liberty, drinking beer, and having a great time.  I know for me, I would rather have fun and see the world by not having to "live" in the engineering spaces...

btw: I love Hilo...  I go there quite a bit to Volcano National Park.  It's such a nice break from Oahu...

I was wondering if some information could be answered. I'm from Hilo, HI and my recruiter isn't updated on the CTN rate (he blames the low scores that people score in the town limits his knowledge on jobs) I scored a 92 which isn't special but respectable.  My number one job that i wanted was nuclear but after failing the colorblind test i was given choices. i chose CTN because i love computers (built several myself with various operating systems) the lack of information received about the CTN rating left me wondering if i signed up for something less than respectable. suggestions/recommendations to other posts would be extremely helpful/appreciated thanks!

Craig, thanks for the posts of the rooms. Too bad I will not see them.  Son has one more exam, graduation on Friday morning and he says he is on the road to Ft. Meade by Friday p.m.

Clockard and Craig, thanks for all the information you have provided us over the last 6 months. My son has made the comment about getting out of the heat and humidity. Little does he know that Washington, DC is just as bad as the Gulf Coast in the summer. Oh well, he'll learn the hard way.

Once again, thanks for all the information.

Yea, I know all about the OPSEC stuff.  It's funny because I made a slide show about Great Lakes bootcamp using all the pictures the Navy released.  It actually came out really good (I think).

http://www.navyformoms.com/group/ctratemoms/forum/topics/boot-camp-...

It's funny how you can Google Earth the entire base, and can find pictures of everything about Corry,  I think the terrorist have just an easy time doing the same thing.

btw:  Corry doesn't have "Do not take pictures" posted at the front gate like most bases do.  I guess it's because it's mostly a training command...

clockard - For some reason I can't delete the original picture post.  I click the "X" and it won't kill it.  Hopefully as the owner of this group you might be able to kill it.

I copied and pasted this post from the Crypto section and had corrected a mom who wrote Correy instead of Corry, so I wanted to fix it.  Thus the repost.

So see if you can kill it...

Karen - Just curious what pictures you are talking about that clockard posted??..

Per the room size, here is some photos...Some of the barracks have been modified, but most are like this.  They are 3702, 3704,3707,3708,3709,3710...

Here are some pictures of the barrack rooms at Corry....

And here is how the normal room floors are laid out...  This is for non-modified rooms (3702,3704, 3707, 3708, 3709, 3710).  The blue is the bathrooms that are connected...  One bathroom per room.

Tony - I'm glad your going enlisted 1st.  You can always submit your officer package later.  It's nothing like have an officer that actually worked in the treaches (ie an ex-enlisted) because they have seen and experieced what it's like to do things.  Nothing ticked me off more than some officer wanting you to do something thinking it would take 1/2 hour, when if they ever have done it they would realize it take 11 hours...

All I can say Tony is go enlisted, then go officer, but always remember your roots...

Yea, Tessie told me about the message.  When she 1st told me, I was wondering who the heck it was, then she read the entire text.  Yea, I had a pretty serious condition and the doctors were all hovering me.  But I'm really good now.

Tony, you will be promoted extremely quick in the Navy.  By going in as an E-5 you will probably beat this guy as being promoted.  This guy in now an officer in Ft. Meade.  Remember, he made E7 in 5year/5 months...  You just keep working the system, and keep pinging away.  You will go far....

Hey Craig, man...i spent a while going back and forth about it. I big reason if i was thinking of not doing enlisted and submitting a officer package. That's still my big dilemma. I want to be an IWO but i want to do work so enlisted is the way to go. I am glad i got in when i did becuz i hear that CTN is now at 100% manned, thats so hard to believe since i hear people drop all the time.

Also, on a personal note....i just got back on Navydep.com yesterday and saw you weren't doing well, and texted Tessie right away to make sure see and you knew my best was with you. Hope she let you know.

Yes, you helped me out so much and gave me so much great advice, more than even my recruiter, heck, you are the reason E-5 is even a reality for me, so i had to make sure I didn't let the people who helped me down either.

Karen - I can see where I got confused now...  You wrote:  My son has been E3 for almost 2 years (in CG they can't move up while there)

I misunderstood CG for being Coast Guard, and what you meant was Ceremonial Gaurds.  Totally understand now....
