My Son did have a car, it was a good thing ... the base is far from everything and it's much safer for them to drive than walk to the beach and to town.  Just remind him that a ticket for speeding or any infraction off base would get him kicked out…Continue

Hi guys - been busy...new job & all...my son just got his new orders right before Christmas.  His time at Ft. Mead will be up in August & he's headed home to Texas!!! San Antonio to be exact!  It's about a 4 hour drive but that's a whole lot better (& cheaper) than the 4 hour flights!!!  Can not wait till August.  Texas was 1st choice - HI 2nd choice (my brother is on Kauai so wouldn't been nice..).  He has enjoyed Ft. Mead but is looking forward to warmer weather at home!

my son's class finishes in end of March and they still don't have any clue yet.  He said maybe this week.

Our son is fine with Ft. Meade. In fact he was not the interested in HI. I encouraged HI for the experience of living there since I doubt he would ever permanently settle there.

His choices were HI, Ft Meade then San Diego, and he got Ft Meade. I know there are a bunch of them at Ft Meade without having started their actual job so may it has to do with budget also. Who knows lol!

Just curious about your son's choices. My son has submitted his choices but there apparently is some delay in getting orders the last 4-6 weeks because of some budget (?) problems.  Anyway, he requested HI first, Ft. Meade second but is pretty sure he will be headed to Ft. Meade. Sorry about your son's group not getting HI, but sounds like there might be hope if the groups around him got orders there.

Yes I am going to PIR.  I can't wait to see him.  He sounded so grown up on the phone today when he called me to tell me he was a Sailor.  Can a lot be crammed in those Flat Rate Boxes?
Comment by himmiemom on February 8, 2011 at 10:34pm
Well, my son is a Sailor now!!!!  He will PIR 2/11 and fly out to Pensacola on 2/15 very early in the morning.  Now for the "next" journey as a Navy Mom.  Will he be able to call once he arrives at Pensacola to let me know he made it?  Also, how soon till I get an address from him?

does anyone else have a fleet returnee in school right now that is going through the stupid process of weather or not they need a PTS? my hubby is approx. 30 days from graduating, and his career counselor just told him and his roomie that they needed to do a PTS. Its rather irritating, that this counselor is so terrible at his job. What are the rules about the PTS??

What were his three choice? My son got his second choice (his first being Hawaii and no one got that location but several in the class behind him got Hawaii, so you just never know). It seems like most get their first or second choice.
