Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

My Son did have a car, it was a good thing ... the base is far from everything and it's much safer for them to drive than walk to the beach and to town. Just remind him that a ticket for speeding or any infraction off base would get him kicked out…Continue

I think my son got his orders about 4 weeks from school being completed. Now maybe someday he will start his job lol!

The hubby said it was rather classified, so I was sure that I wouldnt get too much information... he and 1 other person were the only ones in his class to take the test, so im excited to hear the results. but i guess he wont be able to talk much about it... thanks for the info!!! :)

NavyWife - ION school is NEC 9308 & 9309. This is one of those areas that ia real hard to keep unclassified. So I will say no more other than to give you what the description is in the NEC manual (below). Just do a search on 9308 & 9309. Beleive me, once you earn those nec's, you will never have to worry about finding a job in the civilian world...... Maybe CTNretired can get you a better unclassified version.

Yeah they all went through the interview process in maybe beginning of Nov but they are told there is a delay right now in everyone's job assignment but like a said one did get her's around Christmas so hopefully soon. They are also preparing for a huge increase in personnel around that area so maybe that has something to do with it. I know in our state the bases are trying to start accommodating for the increase in personnel because of base closings etc. Good to know about the Monday thru Friday thing, he is getting use to that kind of life!

Anyone going to Ft Meade, you might be there a while before starting your job. My son and his classmates have been there since Oct and badged up a couple months ago and one just got assigned. Maybe with the holidays it works at a slower pace. He is not complaining though LOL, every weekend and holiday off so far!

Thanks Susan! Im a bit worried about being on an army base. lol. im so used to the navy people. but i think we are just going to be renting off base in a nearby town. the homes are very nice! and really affordable. we will actually be making money of bah! hah! that never happens!
