My Son did have a car, it was a good thing ... the base is far from everything and it's much safer for them to drive than walk to the beach and to town.  Just remind him that a ticket for speeding or any infraction off base would get him kicked out…Continue

CTmomof3, it sounds like your son really needs to see another recruiter or talk to someone else at MEPS when he does his physical. below is the link of the CREO list which shows which rates are wide open for each rank. E-1-E-4 is wide open for CTN. (1 means undermanned, 2 manned at proper level, 3 overmanned)

Craig, I have a question My son's recruiter called (the day after he handed in the packet with all the security questions on it) and told him that he needs to be willing to take any rate that is available. or he won't bring him to MEPS. What the heck? I have a feeling this recruiter is not going to do anything to help him. Now to the question. If I remember from my other son your sat down at a computer and shown everything available correct? So what does he do/say if the CTN rate etc is not offered.. If he say's he'll wait what will happen? Will he be told he can't join?

LtTXsmarty - Blues actual normal practice is on Tues and Thur starting at about 8AM-10AM. There is a Lighthouse right next door to the gateway inn on NAS that is a must if you've never climbed to the top of one before. Air Museum is just down the road from Gateway Inn too. That's just on base. Off base you have of course the beaches that are a must see. Downtown historical district is always a good place for first time visitors as well. The front desk should have info on where these places are located.

This is the only official CTN logo. There were some other logos going around back in 2004 when the rating was established, but this is the official logo approved by NAVNETWARCOM leadership. There are coins floating around that Sailors will get through the career. The CTN coin has this logo on it.

You know - I just don't get the negative people and/or negative comments! Isn't this a place to support each other? Call me crazy (won't be the 1st/2nd/3rd/4th etc time) but if you can't be supportive you shouldn't be here in the 1st place!

Wow - on my soapbox 2 days in a row - Facebook yesterday, here today.....I'll have to warn my husband I guess...

And I never said in my previous comment - I LOVE the CTN patch! I have already emailed it to my son and now I'm headed to look at the links that are on here for other Navy stuff. I would love to find the Navy sweats - absolutely love them & have totally worn out 2 pair of sweat pants already. (had to "borrow" 1 pair from my son!)

Clockard & Craig - keep on doing what you're doing - there are obviously more of us grateful & appreciative of you than those that are not.....

It's been a week or so since I've been on here - and man o man did I miss some excitement it seems! What exactly do you have to do to get kicked off a group? Just asking....

And Craig I totally agree with you on the E6 thing - Jeremy passed the test and waited about 6-8 months for an opening....kind of bummed him out - so excited he passed the test then having to wait....but I'm sure he had a lot more patience than I ever will!

And I have learned an important lesson - don't stay off of here for too long or you'll miss it all!

Hope everyone is having a wonderful week - we've had absolutely beautiful weather this week - we're actually having 'fall like' weather in N. Texas. Unheard of!

No I think I'll head over to the Pensacola group and see what's happening - has to be boring compared to here though......

CTmomof3 - If you have experiece you can actually come into the Navy in a high rate. E6 is the max. It's really hard to explain, it's easier for you just to look.
Go here: http://www.cnrc.navy.mil/publications/Directives/1130_8H_VOL%20IV_P...

Look starting at page 171. It explains it all....

Tony - Glad to see you put in for the DPEP program. You can actually be an E6, depending on which rating. Again, this is one of those programs that is out there that people rarely know about. I hope you get E5.

CTmomof3 - The CTN is 100% to the E5 level forever.....Here is the quotos
http://www.navytimes.com/projects/careers/navy/e4toe6quotas/2010/

I know this is kind of hard to read, but scroll down to CTN...
E6
CTN
65 = The # of people passing the test
30 = Is the # of posistion that can be advanced. (ie just because you passed doesn't mean you get advanced)
46.15% = Is the percentage of those getting advanced (65/30) (for the current 207 cycle)
40 = The number of people being advance during the Sep 09 test (204 cycle)
42.11% = The percentage that got advanced.
And it continues across to the E5, then the E4's...
As you can see E5 and E4 are 100%. If you take the test, you will be advanced.
Comment by CTmomof3 on September 28, 2010 at 8:35pm
Oh good to know clockard..So they did the E5 test already? Funny you mention that as I just got off the phone with my husband and he mentioned he thought my other son had or was about to test for E5.
. What's DPEP and JCAC?
