My Son did have a car, it was a good thing ... the base is far from everything and it's much safer for them to drive than walk to the beach and to town.  Just remind him that a ticket for speeding or any infraction off base would get him kicked out…Continue

For Ret Navy&Mom, current rule is that everyone coming to Corry as a new accession will be placed in Phase I liberty status for 10 days (on base only.) It's a tough one, because it is a 3-day weekend, there is a slight possibility that when she first checks in on Friday, she will be assigned to holding company, and may request leave for the weekend due to family being in the area. They MAY allow it, but normal policy is no off-base liberty or leave until they go to Phase II. Today is a bad day since it is the 15th of Sep all Chiefs are out busy today and tomorrow with the new selectees. I can't get ahold of anyone other than the NMT Qdeck folks who passed on the above info to me.
FYI - when I came to Corry for the first time in was also Columbus Day weekend (1985). I arrived on Friday, bought an airline ticket and spent the weekend in NY with my family. Hope it works out for you and your daughter!

Hey everyone. I have a daughter in boot camp due to graduate Oct 8th and going to Pensacola on the 9th (Columbus Day weekend) and I have a few questions on how they are running things at Corry these days. I have read about the Phases and know she will not be able to leave base during the first phase. We would rather come see her down at Corry (much closer than GL) than go to her graduation and only be able to see her for a few hours ( Plus, she asked us to come to P'Cola instead). We would hopefully have more time to see her, bring her some of her stuff, and of course we have many friends down there. I guess my questions are will we be able to see her if only on base? I think I read somewhere that they sometimes house them over at NAS?? Will she have to do anything during that first weekend? Thanks for any help you can give me.

JCAC is unique in that it is considered both an "A" school and a "C" school. The navy uses JCAC as the "A" school for new accessions (Sailors first entering the navy trying to get rated as a CTN), but for other services it is considered their "C" school (advanced technical school for a particular job.) Most Sailors will get orders somewhere around week 16 to week 20. Immediately after graduation those students will transfer from Corry Station and go to their gaining command (usually leave in between and a couple of days proceed time depending on how far away from Pensacola their ultimate station is located.) Right now there are no additional "C" schools for CTN. The only other option is for those students qualified for ION. We can't discuss that job on this forum, but there are addition requirements for that position. If someone qualifies for that role, they may transfer immediately to Ft Meade, or they may remain on station here until a seat is available for ION at Ft Meade. There is an "F" school here at Pensacola called Joint Network Attack Course (JNAC), but it is usually reserved for senior enlisted and officers.

Tony - What is really fun is having your entire family on N4M and tracking you with other family members that have sailors in the same ship (barracks) as you. It's a real blast to compare notes and stepping through your entire bootcamp with others.
So get them on here, and let them have fun too....

Clockard - Didn't you have alot of fun tracking your son with other in his ship? I know I did.....

ge3kswagTony - I would recommend you also try www.NavyDep.com since you're a depper. Lots of good info there... Bottomline - gather as much info as you can before you leave, you'll be glad you did....
