My Son did have a car, it was a good thing ... the base is far from everything and it's much safer for them to drive than walk to the beach and to town.  Just remind him that a ticket for speeding or any infraction off base would get him kicked out…Continue

momoffour, hot billets means the Navy wants people to fill these jobs quickly... The harder the job, the harder the position is to fill. There is a big difference from a position in Hawaii, compared to working with the SEAL team out of San Diego.... Working with the seal team means you need to work as a team, and do the physical training with the rest of the team...

I know I am stupid but what are hot billets LOL?

Sorry for spamming, but how do you edit comments here? I see the "X", but I don't want to kill the post, just edit them.... Thanks....

Oops.... Sorry about that... I forgot most of you guys are new to the Navy and I need to talk in plane english when I'm over here at N4M.... Billets are positions that your kids can request for. If they need 4 CTN's in Texas, then that means they need 4 billets.... NEC is Navy Enlisted Codes which is a 4 digit number that tells what you kid is qualified to do.. Sorry, I will keep it in plain English from now on....
Comment by Craig on February 28, 2010 at 8:50pm
btw... The hot billets they need for these kids to fill now are the Special Operations. They are really in short supply now....
Comment by Craig on February 28, 2010 at 8:47pm
I totally agree with clockard.... The school is actually 7 months, and they did combine the "A" and "C" schools. This will really screw up the SRB payments once these kids reach their 4 year point because right now they get a multiple of 3 for NEC 9306 & 9307, but they get a multiple of 5 for 9308. Who's to say which NEC they qualify for once these kid make it to their 4 year point... http://www.npc.navy.mil/NR/rdonlyres/CF8C5256-9674-48AE-A634-83BECF...

Per being dropped. There is a big difference between being dropped for cause, and being dropped because you cannot understand the material. If you are out chasing women and partying, then you will be dropped and sent undesignate to the fleet. After about 2 years of cleaning toilets and buffing floors you will be allow to strike for a rating. However, if you really tried, and you went to all of the mandatory classes, and you still don't understand it, then they will allow you to go to another "A" school... See MILPERSMAN 1236-020 for details...

They find out about a week before they graduate. After their last test.

How soon into school do they find out about their first station?
Comment by momoffour(Ship 11 div 119) on February 28, 2010 at 11:55am
I was thinking that the school was 6 months long? Is it longer?
Comment by LLovesmysailor on February 27, 2010 at 3:36pm
My son is a CTN2 and said he is glad that the school is much longer than the one he went through. He said that guys were not prepared enough when they got to his command. As a result, they had to spend time training them, time they just didn't have. I think the reason that the failure rate is so high has more to do with the size of the classes. My son's class was only 5 guys so if one failed then the failure rate was 20%. Making the classes larger and longer lowers the percentage. Those who my son knew that left the CTN program all went to IT.
