I also added the CWT info up above.
Cyber Warfare Technician (CWT) is a new rating for enlisted personnel in the Navy that focuses on both offensive and defensive cyberspace operations. The CWT rating was created to meet the requirements of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) OF 2022. The CWT rating will initially draw from Information Warfare Officers and sailors serving in the Cryptologic Technician-Networks rating.
Hi WordGirl - Yes, this is a new rating. Here's some info I found on it (click on the link):
CWT question: My son will choose his job soon and is thinking CWT. Is this the right group? I know it's a new name and seems to be in cryptology/ intelligence.
If I'm in the right place, can anyone who is already a CWT comment on what the job is actually like?
Good morning! Anyone else in the group currently have a Sailor in A school at Corry for CTR?
TravelAddictedNavyMom, it is as active as those who use it. Often seeing an uptick when a mom like you need answers.
The most important thing I can share is found in OPSEC Guidelines: https://navyformoms.ning.com/group/ctratemoms?xg_source=activity#:~...
Just curious if this group is still active, my son is about to leave for boot camp and enlisted as CTR. Curious about the dos and don'ts of being the mom of a "spook"
Hi Divided_Duo! My son is at DLIFLC with his wife. They have a great apartment that is off base but really close. (Monterey Pines is the complex.) They dated for years and got married by a judge over Thanksgiving break so that she could go out there with him. The studying at DLI is intense, so if she goes, his wife would have to understand that when he is not in school, he may still be working at home studying. There are other military couples in their complex, so she was able to make some friends - it helped. The area is absolutely beautiful - always feels like early spring or early fall to me.
Lorene, I am more than a little jealous that you live so close and can see your sailor on weekends! For us it is a full day of pricey flying... :(
Glad to hear that they are resuming in person graduations! :D
Have a great day everyone!
Hi again Divided_Duo - I don't know about the in-person PIR, but graduations will resume at Monterey Aug 5, per their FB posts I have just seen (and confirmed by my son in Monterey). This won't affect you for a while, but shows that life is getting back to normal - yay!
I just spoke to my son regarding married life at DLIFLC. He said that they'd be in much better housing and get more money lol, but don't know about the whole permission thing. It is super beautiful down there, but much colder than you think. We recently had a heat wave here in the bay area where it was close to 100, and there with the fog, it was 60. Kinda like SF - we can spot the tourists because they're wearing tank tops and their lips are blue with cold :-)
It is an absolutely stunning location!
Total non-sequitur, my son says that the men he meets from Ohio are the absolute best people he's ever met. Salt of the earth. One of the best things about the military is that he's able to meet so many men from other parts of the country!
Hi Divided_Duo - I'm not familiar with the program your SR is going in to but I can confirm that as of right now there are NO live PIR's (graduations) from boot camp. They are hoping to open them back up soon but as of now RTC says it won't be happening for any of the July PIR's. Fingers crossed maybe it will happen in August. Your best bet is to join the boot camp group - I left the link in the welcome message on your page - and you can find more up to date info there regarding PIR.
As far as them getting married that might not be able to happen as quickly as they would like either. He will need to get to Monterey, get situated, and then he would need to get permission from his command to get married. Once he gets there his command will be able to answer questions as to the best way to handle that. And again, it might be better if they just wait a bit since he will be so busy with school. But, try to tell that to young love lol!
AntiM is a good person on here that could probably answer your questions about them getting married. Maybe she'll see this and respond.
