My oldest son is a CTN2 stationed in Norfolk. He just bought a townhome down there. My youngest son is a Nuke on the Miami. He's an ET2. My husband is also a Nuke and works for Westinghouse. We're having a PA N4Ms get together in Cranberry this fall. If you'd like to come, I'll keep you posted.

We just moved from Murrysville. About 5 miles over the border from Allegheny county into Westmoreland.

Irene, where were living when you were here? I live in Cranberry Twp. just over the border of Allegheny county in Butler county. This area is growing so fast its hard to keep up with the new stores and restaurants.

Irene, Your heat wave reminds me of when I was a kid. We didn't have air conditioning. I remember my Mom buying one of those blow up kiddy pools and putting it in the back yard. She would fill it up and hangout during the hotest part of the day, reading a good book in the shade. I think I know what happened to your weather. We have it here in PA. We are having one of the wettest and coolest summers on record. We have not had a single day over 86 degress.

Carolyn, Tell your son not to worry. They do get their act together eventually. Chris missed his first class waiting for his security clearence to come through. But he got into the next class. The Navy needs CTs and they do get them through the clearence process.

clockard, Since my son had been living with his grandmother in NY. They descended on his old NY neighborhood. They sacred the you know what out of the neighbors. They kept calling me, asking me if they should let these guys into their homes and what right did they have to ask about "their" Chris. My son had lived with my Mom for 4 years in order to keep her out of an assisted living, or later, nursing home. She had lived in her home for over 55 years. The neighbors adopted him and loved him as much as I do. They all told the investigators the same thing. He doesn't drink, smoke,or party and he took great care of his grandmother. So when Miss I Have No Sense of Humor showed up at my house, she said they were doing extra investigating because he seemed To Good To Be Real.

I think it may have been because my son was 27 when he enlisted. They had a lot to go through including the fact that he went to more than one college. The funny part was about Chris' brother. She came to the house and said that things were being held up because they couldn't verify his younger brothers whereabouts. They had no record of where he was or what he was doing after he graduated high school. I don't think she appreciated me breaking out in laughter. Alex, Chris' brother was at the time, in the US Navy. He was in power school at Goose Creek and had security clearence to be a Nuke. I just kept thinking that if they couldn't find one of their own then we were all in real trouble.LOL

When my son was getting his clearence they did come to see us, but that was only to clear up some confusion on a couple of dates and to ask when certain neighbors would be home. The woman said they don't like to talk to family members because they don't trust them. That they are concerned that family members will lie to them. It was a very strange and kind of funny (in hindsight) interview.

Irene, The surgery went very well. I'm sure I would be feeling like my old self again except for the cold. My son's girlfriend had that swine flu thing a few months ago, so I am not complaining about the cold. Glad to hear you are doing so well.
suelet, Don't worry about what you say here. Our children never tell us anything. So we get to talk about the frustration of knowing nothing, family news and the weather. Just wait until she graduates and you try to have a phone conversation. You'll understand why we all need each other here. LOL

Hi everyone, Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend. I've caught one of those annoying summer colds, so I'm just hanging around at the moment. I'm trying to get up the energy to go paint some cabinets and small pieces of furniture. But mostly I think I'll hang out on the couch and try to get rid of this cold. Its raining here, just the mood I needed. LOL
