Have him for to the House Hold Good (HHG) office with his property. He is allowed to ship 500 lbs express shipment immediately. He can also use his regular HHG shipment if needed. They will tell him everything. Remember to, he can ship anything from his Home of Record to his new duty station too. All he needs to do is give you Power of Attorney and you can get rid of all of his stuff.

Secondly, he can ship his car out of New Orleans and catch a flight from there. Just work that with the travel office. He needs to keep his taxi receipts because it will be very expensive and he will need to claim it. Make sure he gets there on the weekend because they are closed and he can claim per-diem for the hotels and food. He will not be charge leave either since he's "awaiting transportation". Remember the gas tank needs to be less than 2 gallons when he drops it off...
Here's hoping my son gets orders soon. Did your son want Hawaii? Just seeing if they are giving them what they want.
CRF230dad yes they will ship his car and his stuff. Not sure about the living in the barracks or the ship. He needs to let them know he has stuff to ship. I am sure Craig or someone knows exactly where he needs to go to have it done. Also is his report date soon because the ship is heading out? That would be the reason why he doesn't get to take leave. Cause they normally just need to say they want to take leave before reporting.
HI all, Well after 15 months at P-Cola now my son just got orders today for Pearl Harbor HI. He's being attached to the USS Paul Hamilton DDG-60. This is his first duty station and deployment. His coming right from training command at Pensacola Fl. He literally just graduated this morning, got handed orders and has to report soon. He is was supposed to come home next week for leave and now that's out. I am really bummed out.He is freaking out because he has to get rid of all his stuff he has accumulated over that last 15 months. Will the Navy ship his stuff for him, including his car? When he gets there will he be assigned to barracks or on the ship? Is there some where he can store his things? Craig you may know the answer to some of these questions.
Just so you are aware...... we got to visit our son for only about 20 minutes after PIR before he had to get his gear and head for the airport. So we headed for the airport too, got a gate pass, and visited with our son for about three hours before he left for Pensacola. I don't know if they still fly Sailors out on Friday or not. We knew he was grad and go, but we did not know he would have to fly out on Friday. I packed a small black bag for him with his laptop, cell phone, chargers, some mesh shorts and a tee shirt. I can't remember what else was in that bag. It has been a while!
Tazdeana..that's the same way I feel. We have reserved a room from Thurs to Sunday just in case he gets the whole weekend off but if he doesn't we will just go see what there is to see! Never been to Chicago. Looks like our son's are graduating the same day...10/19/2012 right??
Navymom3,
Good thing my kid was a wrestler because I am used to the hurry up & wait system. Thanks for the info. I guess I just plan to spend the weekend & enjoy whatever I get - either time that includes him or time with just the hubby. Win win either way! LOL
Courtney there wait times can be a couple weeks to months depending on when the new class starts. There is no way to tell until after they get there. But they do keep them very busy during the wait time.
Tazdeana yes they do go straight to school after BC. They fly out anytime from sat to monday. You will not know until PIR which day your sailor flies out. They don't get there tickets until a day or 2 before PIR. So no time to give you a heads up.
Do they go straight to "A" school after Boot Camp?
This is just to funny! I have told my husband that my CTR is a combination of these characters for a long time! Good one Lady H!
