Craig,
I'm so am glad to hear your son is safe. God was truly watching over your family. I pray the His hand will comfort the families of John & Jesse during this difficult time. I could not imagine getting that phone call. This just reminds us that every day is a gift. Such a loss is felt by the whole Navy family. God Bless their families...
As many of you know, I work at the building with John and Jesse. Yesterday was really rough for the Navy guys. We are a 24x7 operation so yesterday (Saturday) would have been John's Monday. Normally the guys are talking and sometimes joking around. Not Saturday. Everything was really low keyed (as it should be). The grief counselors were there and there was a lot of them.
I'm actually in the anger stage now.
As sad as it is to say, I think our prisoners here in Colorado will take care of this problem quicker than our legal system. Even prisoners have a "code-of-conduct", they don't put up with people killing a 6 year old child. I can accept losing a military member in Afghanistan. It is something I can accept. But to lose a innocent child, whether 6 or 27, in the heart of your own country, it just hurts.
God bless to John and Jesse. They were great people..
I sent this to my son. I hope this will help him to "have the watch". This has hit him rather hard as he was in the sister school to Columbine-Chatfield. We knew some of the kids and their families that went through that and this brings back memories. Thank you Craig.
Dedicated to John:
This fallen shipmate has stood the watch...
While some of us were in our racks at night, this young sailor stood the watch...
While his friend continued on in school, this shipmate stood the watch...
As our families watched the storm clouds of war brewing on the horizon of history, this shipmate stood the watch...
Many times he would cast an eye to his family and friends standing there, needing him to be part of their lives, providing guidance and help, but he knew he must stay, because he had the watch.
He stood the watch so that we, our families, and our fellow countrymen could sleep soundly in safety each and every night, knowing that this sailor stood the watch
Today we are here to say "Shipmate... the watch stands relieved". Relieved by those shipmates that you have works with and that you have enjoyed your liberty with.
John, you now stand relieved.. we have the watch...
Fair winds and following seas shipmate!...
Craig if they do have anything for CTR Larimer please let me know as I would like to pay my respects to him and his family. My heart and prayers go out to them.
Glassdog - I bet there will be something. When we get a military member that are killed in Afghanistan or Iraq, we (military and civilians) line the streets from the tarmac to the front gate out of respect.
We just don't yet know what the family wants. If they wants him interned in his Navy uniform, then they will probably send him to Travis AFB or Dover, which means he will probably fly out of Buckley. Or maybe the family just wants their son back immediately, which means they won't enter the base, they will take him directly from the Arapahoe County Corner office to Denver International Airport (DIA).
When I had to bring back the sailor from my office, it took Travis AFB two days to do their magic. We then proceeded to South Bend Indiana.
Again, prayer to CTR3 Larimer and his family.
God bless Ct Petty Officer 3rd class John Larimer and Air Force Staff Sargent Jesse Childress. Bless their families and loved ones.
Will there be any services here in Denver for either of these wonderful men?
Petty Officer 3rd class just like my son, who flew off to his new command in San Antonio today ...
