MRmom is your son still in school. My son is a CTM and is now in Japan. He also now wants to stay in as long as he can. Took some convincing to join but now he said is was the best decision he made and loves it.

I am sure the comment made was not intentional. We all make comments as expressions that we do not really think about before hand. Good points taken.

I too rorysmom(Ship13Div244) Understand @ times we say things but on this site we need to help and make things easier for one another with out the hoping something bad happens to one of our Sailors. that needs to be said in privet messages . I feel for the families and loved ones that have had a Military loss. I cant even begin to imagine seeing my son's picture on the newspaper or t.v. news. I just got a little upset...  LOL but kept it nice & clean.  which is not like me!!! lol

From my experience in the Navy, I have met the wackiest people on the planet!  But I have met my best and lifelong friends.  And the experiences you get, whether at sea or on land....you can't get anywhere else.  Even the most mundane tasks can be made fun.  I had a lot of laughs while in the Navy :)

Comment by NavyMom4J on February 3, 2012 at 1:24pm

MRMom- oh how true and exactly the same conversation I had with my son- now a CTT aboard the USS Lake Champlain missal guided cruiser. Makes me so proud!

Comment by MR.MOM-DIV-85 on February 3, 2012 at 1:16pm

Congratulations to you and your SAILOR salpetty.  What you said is very true in today's economic hard times. I told my son b-4 he left for BC, Look most of your friends and what job they have and where they are going at this point in their life, Now think of what you are about to do and the possibilities after 6 or more years in the NAVY and not to mention as a civilian what jobs you will be able to get after being a CTM. He told me I will stay in the navy for as long as I can I want to be a lifer. I looked @ him started to cry & told him how proud I am no matter how long you stay in the NAVY. He researched all the horror stories and accepts the Challenge But hopes he bypasses that & is set for smooth sailing. I laughed so hard when he said that & then he got what he just said. I told him the transformation is already taking place... LOL

salpetty congrats on your daughter graduating today!

Ditto Mr. Mom and Rorysmom.  As in life, things never go as planned and in the Navy, things can turn on a dime.  One day you think you're doing something and the next day you are doing something else and, in some cases, starting from scratch.  Take if for what it is, make the best of it and find something positive.  My daughter complained the whole time she was in holding because she was bored out of her mind and feeling really unproductive.  I told her to look at the bright side:  There's no job in the civilian world that will pay you just to BE.  Unless you're a Kardashian of course :) My kid graduated A school this morning.....Happy Superbowl Weekend to all!
