Hi, Phew he did it. Graduation made me so Proud. Proud of him, proud of our Country. Honestly, I was like ok...what did ya do with my son he is just blowing me away!!! So he just checked into GL A school. From what I know( he says) that damage control is only till Dec? So short? Then he heads to the Curtis Wilbur in Japan. Will he be prepared after such a short schooling?

im laughing because i said the exact same thing..."what did you do with my son"..it is amazing,..my son also did dc school

he truly knew nothing about it going in , he had just graduated from criminal justice in college...i didnt understand his choice...but within a short time he seemed to know alot ...his been at norfolk for about 5 months and has already been nominated for sailor of the quarter...so yes they learn alot in a small amount of time and get alot of hands on when they get onboard...,he will be fine , they are in good hands and i am still amazed...

Absolutely--I agree with Claudia!  After PIR I was so amazed and proud of every one of the Sailors he graduated with.  A school for my DC went by very quickly--he graduated in August & has been at NS Mayport, FL since then.  He has been underway 2 or 3 times already & he's still crankin (apparently to get them familiar with many ship operations before they assume their full-time duties) but even though he HATES crankin, he is very much ready to take on the DC job.  I don't think he has a minute's regret--other than hating crankin. LOL
i was just at mayport my son got to pull in port for a week..we live in daytona so i got to drive up and have an extra visit with my son..it was nice to have him to myself...he got married in between bootcamp and a school..so i didnt have to share him with his new wife...lol.....mayport was his first choice but ended up at norfolk...my husband is retired coast guard ..and loves being able to visit  any ship he just loved the sea...

The school may take a little longer...there's the Thanksgiving break and if he isn't done before Christmas, the classes shut down for 2 weeks.  At least that is what happened with Katie.  She PIRd ealy December had indoc classes before Christmas, but then she was able to come home since there were classes until after New Year's.

Yes, it is that short.  Katie finished in March and was home for  weeks and then off to Japan.  A lot of it is OJT.  Will he be prepared - as prepared as the rest of them!

Claudia, is your son. DC now? I am trying to figure out the whole DC on the ship. 3months at a time each job? Huh? Any idea?

yes he is still a DC , not sure what crankin is he has never mentioned it , he went to his ship as a DC and other than taking things to further certify him he has always performed the same tasks..im still amazed with the things he does and his determination , but im still trying to figure out all the lingo and rates in the navy..im married to a retired coastie...lol

Well My Adam seems to tell me nothing(not unusual). He mentioned he does each job 3 months at a time then he can decide which one he likes. Does that sound right? Right now all I know is he is coming home(yay) Dec12 then going to Japan end of Dec. That's about all I know....

im not sure what thats called ..but ive heard that before zak has been doin the same since he left A school..and i can understand the not bein told much..lol im so glad you get to see him soon..not sure what mines doin for christmas i might have to play nice since hes a newlywed and hide my tears while they go to her parents for the holiday..i should be use to it by now my daughters husband is a Lt. Col in the AirForce and is in germany..theyve got 18 years in but it never gets easier...we have 19 children and the older they get we now have them in five different states...holidays are hard miss them not all being home

Hi my son is in Japan( home port) and shipped soon after graduation within weeks he is undesignated and figuring out what he wants to do job wish if he gets it right now is bottom of the barrel work which is to be expected so hoping he figures it out he is DC or FN  so hope it works out nervous mom here
