Hi, all. There may well be other posts about this, but I tried searching and wasn't exactly sure how to find the information. I am still very new to this very helpful site!
My husband went to MEPs on Friday and swore in with a ship date of November 4. From what I understand, he will still be in boot camp Thanksgiving and Christmas, but maybe with something akin to a day off? (I know he can't really leave the school or anything).
Also, I was kind of calculating, and the Friday that will be a little over 8 weeks after he gets there will be New Year's Day. Assuming that is the end of his boot camp, will they still do graduation ceremonies on holidays like New Year's Day?
I'm sure I'll have a million other questions soon, too....just thinking about all the things we will have to do over the next year is kind of mind-blowing, but we'll get through it step by step! We are so excited to begin this adventure :)

My son is shipping out on the same day, so I have the same questions. Hopefully someone can give us some insight.
bdmom64, I left info for you on your My Page.
I have the same questions as my son ships out on November 9.
Your then recruit MAY be eligible for the Christmas Adopt a Sailor program since he will be in one of the senior divisions (PIR most likely 01/08/2016, but Thursday, 12/31/2015, is possible since he will be arriving on a Monday). See the info in What does ??? mean? (A Guide to Navy Abbreviations and Terminology) on Adopt-A-Sailor Program. He will send a packet if he will be eligible for it. He won't be eligible for the Thanksgiving program.
My daughter also ships out on Nov 4th . I am very curious as to what happens at Christmas as well. Thanks for any advice/answers or directions to a place with information.
I am happy that there are other moms on here with the same ship date. I look forward to getting to know you.
BarbaraB, your recruit MAY be eligible for the Christmas Adopt a Sailor program since she will be in one of the senior divisions (PIR most likely Thursday, 12/31/2015, but 01/08/2016 is possible since she will be arriving on a Wednesday). Sometimes the TG right after Christmas is included and sometimes it is not. See the info in What does ??? mean? (A Guide to Navy Abbreviations and Terminology) on Adopt-A-Sailor Program. She will send a packet if she will be eligible for it. She won't be eligible for the Thanksgiving program. She will enjoy a nice meal on Thanksgiving.
Check your My Page.
Yes! My husband leaves on November 4. I can't believe I only have two and a half weeks left with him here. I am making the most of every day (and night! ;) )
