My son did his physical at MEPS a couple of weeks ago. His heart rate was up a little so he had to have a local doctor check it a couple of days. Done. He got info back to recruiter and left yesterday to go finish the process. Will come back with date for boot camp today. Help!!! He is a grown man but still my first born. I support himself 100% but will miss him so much

My son leaves for bootcamp Wednesday. Talk about a "yikes" moment every time u think about it !!!!

my son just called to say that they would be heading home in an hour or so. It is a 2 hour drive. So tonight I get all of the info. I am proud of myself. I usually bombard with questions. I will be thinking of you and your son.

leaves for boot camp 9/24. We have time to work on everything

Congrats to your son!  My son will be leaving for MEPS on 6/24.  He won't be going to BC until next summer though since he still has another year to go in high school.  How scary and exciting this next step in our kid's lives!  Hope you guys have some memorable moments to share before he ships out to BC.  I am already trying to think about what we might want to do that is special before this year is up.  OMG the time goes by so fast!

I will pray for you. Everyone on here has been great and very supportive. I have nothing to worry about for now but I do. I guess that comes from being a mom and always worrying. Hug your son tight and think of PIR

At least you have some time to adjust tupelosusan. Of course it won't ease any of the emotions that will continue to flow. I totally under stand about not needing to being worried, but still being worried. Thank goodness there are so many wonderful people here on N4M to support us and understand.

It turns out that my son is now going to MEPS this Monday. He'll be leaving Sunday as it is an 8hr drive. I am not too worried about the trip, but I know I will still have a bit of anxiety until we get the final word that he is sworn into DEP. My son hasn't had any health issues, but as a Mom, I worry that they will find something that we never knew about that could dash his dreams. Thank goodness the weekend is almost here! Once we get his BC date, I will be able to breathe a little easier for now. LOL

Let me know what kind of special things you are doing for your son for these last few months.

We are big college football fans. We are giving our son the tickets to the home opener for our team. He can either take a friend or 1 parent. This will be the Saturday before he reports to BC

What an AWESOME thing to do! He will remember that for sure! My son is a music fan, so I will need to brainstorm some about something along those lines. The hardest part about having a whole year (or possibly more) til my son leaves for BC is thinking about the last holidays or birthday etc. Each holiday is going to be extra special in one way or another. It's just difficult to fathom not being there for all those holidays after he joins the Navy. I know we'll get to spend some holidays with him, but it's just a difficult transition to make.
Just got word from our son. There is now a Seaman Recruit in our house! He ships out July 1, 2014. We are so proud of him and the choice he has made to serve. Time to start saving $$$$$$! We took a quick photo of him in front of the Navy Recruiter's door before he left yesterday. Already the transformation is beginning and this Mom is going to have to start getting used the idea of an empty nest. A friend of mine said he looked so young. I told her that he is right now, but he won't be for too much longer. When we first become parents, we don't think about the day that they have to break out into the world on their own. We're always caught up in what they are doing at the time. Then SNAP, it's time and we get blind-sided. My fortune out of the fortune cookie the other day was quite appropriate...it said "Counting time is not so important as making time count." I think I need to make this my motto for this year.

found out no football game after all. too close to BC and not the right "environment"

Oh man...no fair. I hope you can find something else to do for him. I suggested to my son to go camping or backpacking with his best friends this summer since he won't have a summer next year. I also just remembered that our city hosts a month-long event called Artown and every day there are arts related events happening like live music, even movies in the park. We don't participate too much, but I think we'll do more of those events this year. We wanted to send him to a concert for his fave band, but it came up too quickly and we couldn't get tickets. Hoping we can find a different band he will want to go see.
I hope you can pull something together...heck even just long walks or a picnic would be special.

going to do some day trips in the next few weeks. We walk each night(when not so hot).
