My son leaves in about 10 days for Great Lakes and I am a blubbering idiot. Please tell me it gets easier....

Kensign -- it gets better.   It will be hard waiting for each milestone while he is in BC, but the milestones give you something to look forward to.   Pray for your son.  Write letters.  When you are missing him, sit down and write him a letter.  Tell him how proud you are, tell him you went to his favorite restaurant and how proud you were as you thought of him and remembered you fun times there, plan your trip to PIR, and then just remember 8 weeks, is only 2 months.  Two months sounds much shorter than eight weeks...and if you think about it...that's shorter time than their summer break from school and remember how quickly that goes.   And think of how proud you will be when they walk into the hall for PIR.   He will be so happy and proud to see you too.  It's a growing step for him and for you.  They gain pride and independance.  And if nothing else works....once he is done with BC, it will be totally new....you can talk to them much more often and send them boxes, etc.  I try and send a box with goodies once a month.  My sailor tells me he can buy whatever he wants, but he nevers says don't send the box :-)

lol.  He never says Don't send the box.  You just made my day~  We got our sons box today.  And the graduation day.  Funny most of my tears are going to grocery store and back.  Keep thinking of favorite foods cinnamon rolls..and his favorite pop, and meals.  And although I am sure the Navy has great food, I still wish he were home.  Or at least out of boot camp and into A school so we can be in touch every day or at least have the choice.

My son leaves for BC on June 10th and I am starting to get anxious already! I just keep telling myself this is the hardest part! Take care!
Thank you so much for the encouraging words, i will refer to them often. Prayer will will the only thing that gets me through, I never thought it was going to be so hard. Thank you again!

Kensign

one thing I would suggest to do is to have your son leave you a recording on your phone either by voice mail or using the voice notes.  this way when you need to hear his voice you can listen to it while he is at bootcamp.

Great idea Irene, I will take your advice. Thank you so much!

Well hugs to u.  And I was a blubbering idiot behind closed doors before he left.  Not too often.  Not as often as after he left.  The first 3 weeks are the hardest with no contact.  Waiting for letters and calls.  I think now that we only have a week before a letter from him, it will be easier.  Tried to keep very busy. So it has been exactly 7days today since he left, and the box arrived.  The form letter came the same time.  Remember this. Monday to Monday.  You can call Fed Ex and sign up so that you know more of when his box will come home.  I wrote 5 letters and sent 2 cards.  All you are going to care about is the address.  The heck with the clothes.  My prayers to you, buckle up for a couple of long and hard crys.  I vowed to write a short letter every day. We sent out one letter, and I numbered them, and used SR before his name, meaning Sailor Recruit.  Tomorrow another letter goes out.  I will feel better taking them to the mailbox. I will still mail them everyday although he cannot send anything out til next Sunday.  Sunday mornings, are when they are free to write.  Still wonder if his address has to be in all capital letters as he sent it,but doing it exactly as he wrote it. Keep in touch with me, my name is Becky.  good luck to you and to him.

Thank you so much Becky. I am praying for sure! When did you son leave for BC? I am trying to keep busy as well, it hasn't even been one week yet and it feels like a month. I can't wait to get his address. They say 2 weeks but it sounds like they are arriving much sooner than that, I hope so.
Take care and we will keep in touch!
Kathy
