Go to "Settings" above to set your Username.  While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups!  Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself!  Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility. 

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.  

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

My son, Chase has been in DEP since mid December and is scheduled to leave for boot camp May 8th. His recruiter has got him on a all vege diet because he put some of his weight back on and it has been flunctuating. Any one else out there with this problem?....I don't like to worry, but I'd hate for him to be held back because of a few pounds...anyone out there with any suggestions?!

An all vege diet can be ok, but...you don't want him losing any of his muscle in the process.  Protein is his friend.  Tofu is ok, but chick peas or other beans are great.  Peanut butter in small amounts many times a day is good (need to watch any source though that is high in calories).  Tell him to research!  Try some vegetarian sites.  And of course protein shakes.  Congrats on your son and his commitment.  I'm sure he'll make it!

Thank you for the reply and the suggestions! He ate tofu for a couple of weeks and tired of it quickly. I have been cooking a lot of beans/peas for his protein, and he does eat the peanut butter, but he puts it on bread which is my concern. He is really struggling with this diet going on a month now....he is a real meat lover, but he is being a real trouper through it all and respects his recruiter enough to follow through. He seems to have reached a plateau with his weight because he is building muscle, yet still needs to loose a few pounds. He is running, walking, and working out, so hopefully the little belly he has will go away before 05-08. Thanks for your support!

my son has the other end of the problem he has to put on 10 lbs. before BC. I talked to the nutritionest at our local fitness center. Try that if u have the resource. I know lots of Protein ( try Boost shakes) for muscle mass and he would need Cardio exercise ( like running or Zumba) to shed pounds. Because for my son they recommend no cardio to keep his weight on.

Eat a bowl of oatmeal every day for breakfast with a little maple syrup or honey. That is filling and healthy. Eat a salad for lunch but have beans, chick peas or lowfat cottage cheese for protein or add tuna without mayonaise. For dinner eat more chicken or fish. Switch to lowfat milk which still has protein, calcium and vitamin D. Cut out carbonated soft drinks. Good luck the weight will come off.

That sounds like the diet my son's recruiter put him on. Along with his work outs he was able to drop 21 pounds in about 3 weeks to make the body fat measurements. Now he's going to work on dropping about another 20 to make the weight requirements so he doesn't have to worry about the body fat since he's stocky and always has been since he was born.
