Thanks for the advice ladies. Gosh, I hope he sticks with the car first and holds off on the girlfriend thing for a while. I was reading further back some of the posts about where to get a car. They have something called a "lemon lot" which usually is not a word you want to associate with a car but then people were saying you can get some really good cars there. That cracked me up. Maybe they have a "Lemon Club" where they can acquire girlfriends? Just kidding. I really need to talk to my son when he gets home. LOL

My son said to me when he got there, I guess I have to get a car, girlfriend and place to stay off base. I thought the girlfriend part was funny. I told him I am pretty sure the girlfriends and wives followed them there. They didnt just go get one.

not sure, I thought about that too but my son says Verizon works good on base! He no longer lives on base.......or should I say, when he gets home from deployment, he won't be on base.............
Comment by sjtina on July 24, 2011 at 10:40pm

haha . we have sprint and he has to go outside his room to talk. Doesnt seem any of them work. Do you think because its a base that the signals are blocked. just wondering. I havent heard from him in awhile. Hope he is settling in ok.

that's the same with AT&T.....my son would have to go outside to get a signal

When my son went to Oceana last July, we had AT&T (still do) BUT from my experience when we went there and also my son, AT&T is not good on base. My son said that when our current AT&T plan is up next February, he will be changing to Verizon. However, I recently heard that Verizon no longer offers an unlimited "data" plan. But he says that Verizon is the best on base! Hope this helps!

I was wondering if someone would have the answer to this. My son will be coming home from his A school this week and then leaving and going to NAS Oceana 2 weeks later. We would like to know what cell phone carrier gets the best reception in the area. We would like to start with a pre-paid or pay as you go to start with until he is a little more established and until he can get a vehicle and see what those payments are going to be first. He doesn't want to get in over his head. Any help offered would be appreciated. Thank you!
