So what did your sons do for their Eagle Scout project? Christian refurbished his high school varsity football team locker room. Replaced the old benches, painted the lockers, and put the helmet logo smack dab in the middle of the floor a BIG ORANGE W! The coach liked the orange band around the locker room that he had the school paint an orange band around the building on the outside!

Best part about his project? Dad and I stayed out of all planning of it. We were just supply runners and weinie roasters for lunches. I will admit, there were days that I thought this project was too big for him to get done, but he set this goal and acheived it. Guess it showed me that he's not a little boy any longer and when he sets his mind to something, he will reach the goal.

Jonis had planned for 2 yrs to build a standing/above ground garden for the residents of a local Assisted Living Facility... But when it came down to do it he couldn't get the supplies donated... We went to 4 different major Building equipment chains & none of them would donate anything. So he had at the last minute find something else to do...

He called our local Parks & Wildlife office & they had a few projects to choose from. He then decieded to refurbish 2 bridges that crossed over a major creek in a local park. The bridges were used by bicylist, joggers, & nature walkers & were fixing to be closed down because they had become too dangerous. What was kinda cool about these bridges is that they had been an Eagle Project 15 yrs before... So Jonis saw it as helping another Eagle Project live on... In doing his Project he learned that it is sometimes difficult to get friends to not be friends & just follow directions...

Jonis didn't know a lot about construction; but he went to men in his Scout troop that did have experience in this area & asked the appropriate questions & planned/carried out the project himself.... He decieded how may ppl he needed each day & the only way I assisted was being a Taxi service & feeding the masses....

Funny story to go w/this... On one of the trips Jonis took to MEPS he was talking to the other guys & they were all talking about what they do for fun.... One guy said he liked to bike ride & Jonis asked him where... The guy said: Funny thing you ask that... He said; There's this park & the bridges were so rickety that we were going to have to quit using that trail; but the last time we went there they were all sturdy & strong... IT was the craziest thing..... Jonis said: "You're Welcome"..... They guy asked him; What do you mean??? & Jonis said "You're Welcome; b/c Me & my Scout troop are the ones that stabilized those bridges so guys like you could still ride them..." The guys all got a good laugh on how w/o knowing someone you can intersect their lives....
My son kinda went through the same last minute change thing that Jonis went through. He was originally going to be doing all the work to refurbish the bleachers as his high school's sports field. He had the school support and even donations from the paint and hardware stores all lined up. Just as he's putting together all the announcements the county maintenance folks stepped in and put the kibosh on it. Luckily, the troop has a good old standby project that dozens of would be Eagles have contributed to over the 50 year (and 50 Eagles) history of this troop and he ended up locating and documenting 10 more of the Mason/Dixon markers on the border of PA and MD. He became an Eagle in April 2009 and we had his court of honor in Sept 2009 (because he usually goes away to CT in the summertime). I also was proud it was over and he learned so much but I really thought it was never going to get off the ground!
