Jordan is my 16 year old son.  He also wants to join the Navy, it's a family tradition I think, started with my husband, then Christian, now Jordan.  He's my baby, all 6'2 and 215 lbs of him.  He's not a football player, he played freshman year didn't like it, never liked wrestling, went out for the swim team and swam varsity team for 3 years, this next spring he wants to play tennis, o.k. he might be good at that too.  He wants to be a chef, plans to attend Johnson Wales Cullinary School someday. He's also been very active in veteran service since he was a toddler as his dad was the past commander of our local American Legion Post.

These are the project details.

William C. Shinn was the first BSA Troop 464 Eagle Scout, earned on 11/11/66.  He enlisted in the Air Force and became a Staff Sergeant during Vietnam.

One 1/28/70, a F-105G was shot down by an air to air missle from a North Vietnamese MiG-21.  Ssgt Shinn's search and rescue helicopter was dispatched.  While waiting to enter the rescue area to save the crew of the down aircraft, it too was shot down by an air to air missle from another MiG-21.  Ssgt. Shinn was listed MIA along with his fellow crew members.  In 1973 his status was changed from MIA to KIA body not recovered.

Jordan's project is to didicate a black granite bench in memoiral t Ssgt. Shinn's service to America.  Service above self.  The bench will be on the courthouse grounds just west of the War Memorial and face towards the memorial where his name is listed.  The border around the bench is in the shape of a pentagon, the bench will have SSgt. Shinn's Eagle Scout info as well as his Air Force Service info.  The Eagle Scout emblem will be above the ES info and Air Force emblem above AF service info.

He goes in front of the County Board of Supevisors the end of Sept. and plans to begins ground prep in October and have the dedication on Nov. 11, 2010 during the Veteran's Day Service sponsered by the local American Legion Post.  It's going to get crazy around our house very soon!  Lady Clarol may have to come for a visit.

I will post pictures after the dedication.  Prayers of support are greatly appreciated!

I forgot to mention, the bench has 4 large shade trees behind it, so it'll be a very nice spot to have lunch or just reflect on things.
Wow!! That is a very ambitious project. I can't wait to see the final result. Will be praying for you and your family. As we all know, no boy doesn't make Eagle alone....along with some footprints on his behind. :0
That is wonderful Christine. Please post pics and yes of course we will be praying for smooth execution and peace in the family too!!
UPDATE. Jordan went in front the the county board of supervisors and got approval for his project. Cal and I went shopping yesterday at Sam's Club for the lunches for 3 weekends. Next 3 weekends are going to be busy! Keep us in your prayers. Veteran's Day will be here before we know it. The bench arrived at the shop for ingraving, so far everything is on schedule, no stopping now.
