I have read the move to Eglin is the longest part of the EOD training.  Just curious, do they live on base the entire time or can they live off base?  Are they still provided meals as they are at Panama City?  It's just such a long time there was wondering how it all is done. Are they allowed to rent vehicles ?  Appreciate any info anyone can provide.  Thanks bunches.

jlb228, mine was in the fleet before EOD so when he finished up at GL he drove to Panama City and then on to Eglin. He sold his truck when he went to Ft Bennington for jump school. He lived on base for a short time and then he rented a house with 3 other guys. As I said before not sure if rank determines if you live on or off base. I will write my son and ask him. Not sure how much things have changed since he has been out of school for 4 years.

Thanks Karenlee.  They are at Eglin for such a long time - just curious how things work.  My son doesn't really ask many questions.  Just goes and does what he's told.  :-)

My son is at eglin now- for @ the last two mos, he lives on eglin. They are given a food stipend in their checks and eat meals off base, dinner on the way back after school. Per my son, this may change in the future. They have to drive @ 15 mins to eod school and are there all day, they go in very early, school all day and then study, a tablet is provided. No materials may leave school for study. He does not have a car but plenty do and it's no issue as they all carpool and split gas costs.

Thanks Eagle.  I didn't know they had to travel for school.  Hopefully car pooling will work as he doesn't have vehicle there either.  Is there any places to eat on base?  Do they have access to a frig/microwave?  Just curious.  Sure I am over thinking all this - just being a "navy" mom.  :-)

i think the car issue will not be a problem, i just saw my son, he looked good, he was eating fine, it seems that in the am (they get up really early and are off the base, really early), they eat somewhere because my son mentioned he is eating pineapple each morning, so i am not sure if its at the school house they go to or on the way.  my son gets irritated when i ask questions about fridges etc but he assures me these are not issues, i had gotten him some of the starbucks granules to make coffee if needed and he says he has used them but i am not sure where.  They are at the very edge of Eglin and could walk to a restaurant if needed.  The grocery store by them is also a Publix and they tend to stop there often for subs etc.

My son also recently had a birthday and they all went to dinner after school one night so food is not an issue.  The day is very long @ 12 hours or more, so once they leave school, they simply eat and go back to base and early bed usually.  On the w/e they are free to do what they want, my son has had very minimal watch because its an airforce base, so they do their own watch.

My son has also been at Eglin for about two months now, he has his own room and has a fridge and microwave. On weekend he grills chicken and has brown rice packs I send him that are easy to micro. I also sent coffee and he bought a coffee maker on base. I know they sometimes stop to eat on there way back from training but he is not big on fast food so he gets creative. He did drive his car from CA to FL but he said a lot of guys have cars and they mostly carpool.
My son said they run a bus for school but the Navy guys carpool and he said the galley is very close to barracks. Hope all your sailors are doing well. This is a long journey so with saying that I will keep everyone in prayer.
My son said they run a bus for school nut the Navy guys car pool. All branches are at Eglin for EOD school. He also said the galley is close to the barracks.

Just curious, any moms headed out to Eglin this weekend to their sailor?  And/or see the Blue Angels in Pensacola?

prayer mom, have a good time at Eglin. My son is hoping to get there in a few years as his next duty station, hope he does because we like that area. We went to visit when he was in school and then for graduation. The Blue Angels are awesome. They were at an air show in St Louis and we went.
