Fallon is a very small base. I've been spoiled from living in the South, too, and this place isn't close at all. The weather is very sporadic. A few weeks ago, it hailed, then it was 90 degrees out, and then there was a big thunderstorm. Winter is long, and it's just now starting to get pretty warm out - but I hear it gets very hot! I've had locals tell me that it literally dries you up. Honestly, the thing I hate the most so far is the wind! It's ALWAYS blowing, and dust storms are frequent, but I also walk to work and everywhere else. If she's worried about entertainment, then she'll want to get a car (or make a friend of someone who has one). Reno is where most of the fun is, as Fallon doesn't have too much. It's a small town. I can't say anything about the NAS Fallon command itself. I work from NSAWC which is located on the same base.

Hello Ladies :-)  I am a navy Mom.  My daughter is currently stationed in Pensacola, FL, and got her orders for Fallon - AO.  She's been a bit spoiled with the nice weather and beautiful beaches in FL  lol  and I know she is worried what Nevada is like.  Can any of you offer some insights as to Fallon weather, things to do there... etc?  Is it a large base?  Thanks!  P
