From what I understand, it isn't an issue with being on the orders, it is that Live Ashore is being denied because of problems happening offbase with the sailors. The Navy can make the married sailors live in the barracks during training if it chooses to do so. I just want to get it clarified so we have precise information to share.
I really don't want to be a wet blanket, but command policy changes can be very tough to pin down when first implemented. Sometimes even bad news is useful if it prevents a gal from moving all the way there, spending all their spare money, then breaking her heart because she has to live alone, rather than staying where her family support is located and saving up for the real move to his fist duty station. Sure, there are weekends, but concrete information helps when making hard financial and emotional decisions.
Hi Ladies! I am hoping to make the move in about April to GL. My husband's PIR was 1-7-11, so we are waiting for approval, but I am already thinking about putting in my notice at work (it has to be 4 weeks!) so I can get things packed up and ready- I would like to work in Chicago and take the metra there as a commuter- are any of you familiar with this commute? I hate driving and figure it will be cheaper this way.
Also I saw recommendations for apts: Northgate apartments, AMLI, and Reserve at Eagle Ridge...any others you could pass along? THanks so much for any and all help! I hope we can all meet up if we are living there at the same time! It would be fun to have a book club, or potluck night or something :)

Hi, Suzanne. Can't help you with the metra commute, but perhaps you can try asking on the city-data.com forums for the Chicago suburbs. :)
As far as apartments, there are several wives living at Forest Pointe in Lake Bluff.
If you take the Metra from the base to downtown Chicago it is an hour and Twenty Minutes..
As for apartments... I know a wife that lived at Northgate and they are decent apartments.. I really liked them...
I also know a wife who lives at Eagle ridge and they are really nice also...
If you want to be around other Navy families I would suggest Eagle ridge.. There are many Couples living there and a majority of them are ET/ FC wives...
If you are concerned about price Northgate is a better deal... You can get a 2 BR for the price of a 1 BR at Eagle Ridge..
Hope this helps=]

Just started the 3/25/11 PIR group so if your AECF hubby's at BC now, join our group!
Hey everyone! I started a group for Navy Wives to discuss all the benefits and discounts we can take advantage of as a 'dependant'. Please join! Especially the veteran Moms who have also been wives. We'd love to hear what all we can be taking advantage of. Share your personal insight as well as anything you read/see!
I know that a lot of your ladies live at The Reserve at Eagle Ridge. I'm interested in these apartments and have even called requesting pictures, but the people there aren't so helpful, lol. I'm wondering if anyone can show pictures of what their 2 bedroom apartment looks like & the floor plan it is.
Also, are the closets big enough for you? I noticed that they're not walk-ins and that's something I'm not used to. I have a lot of clothes & need all the space I can get since I hang everything.
Thankss!
