There seems to be so many of you lately!!! It is wonderful that you will have each other's support while going thru the process together.

Thought I would start this thread so you can at least connect and share stories together. Seems like there is a fair amount of you in Great Lakes and just as many more trying to decide if you can more to Great Lakes.

Hey ladies. My hubby has PIR on 2/18/11 and I am hoping to move up to Great Lakes in March... if the Navy hasn't processed the paperwork for our move yet, can I move myself up there (travelling light) and let them move the rest once we've been processed? Also, my husband already has his A school orders, can I get on the housing and child care wait list now, or do I have to wait until he checks in to A school? Any answers are appreciated. Thanks.

Hi all! my husband is in boot camp now and will graduate march 25th, 2011. he will be in a school at GL and says that i'll be able to move up there since his school is longer then 20 weeks. will we be eligible for housing on base? does any one know what kind of waiting list there is? what do i need to do? and what do i need to have him do?

We got official orders recently and am happy to report that he got SD! We are super excited that ALL of this waiting will be done with next month. My hubby has C school in VB, VA then he's coming home!!!! He will have been in GL for 14 months---Jan 6, 2010 to March 11, 2011. Did any other wives that decided to stay behind get the orders they wanted?? Has anyone seen April on here??

Sorry I disappeared for awhile. There was so much going on that I disconnected my account just to keep my concentration on other things. I see that your hubby will be stationed in SD. That's great news! We were just there for the week. My husband detached from GL on Feb 24 and was able to do RAP duty and take leave before going to C school so he was visiting us here in Seattle when we got the unfortunate news that his grandmother passed away. We were so lucky that he was able to go to the funeral in SD. As I write this he's on his way to Dahlgren, VA for 6 months. Then from there who knows where he'll be. Not sure when orders are given during C school, but we're considering going with him to just have a few months, but it's just a consideration. We know with his rate he's gonna want to go to sea as soon as he can so he can get the experience he needs, so having a few months with him is better than nothing. Everything is still gonna be up in the air until he gets his fleet assignment.

 

Hope all is well and congratulations to your sailor! If we end up in SD we'll have to connect =)

I am still finding out that everyone's situations are so different, even in the same field.  Adam got his C school orders along with his station and ship.  I know what you mean about getting a few months with your sailor.  I think we're going to have ours from May until December (he has sea duty as well).  Those 7 months will be so blissful to say the least :)  I wish you and your family well and I hope you get to see your husband sooner rather than later. :)

Hi!

I'm new to the website, I just wanted to post to maybe make some friends. My husband will be leaving for basic in July, and I'm planning on joining him as soon as possible. He started the process of enlistment back in June of 2010 and have been doing DEP training since. 

I read that there were some hold ups between bootcamp and A school that were happening a few years ago, and I was wondering if that was still the case. 

We are planning on moving to the Eagle Ridge apartment complex, so if anyone will be living there in October when I move (hopefully) let me know and I can refer you.

Our recruiters haven't been very helpful in our process of planning on what A school will be like. I've actually learned everything on this forum and I'm so glad I did!  One of the recruiters called housing and asked about on base housing for us, and he told us the person said that they didn't house people in A school. I saw on here that many families went into on base housing after a wait period. Have they changed policy or are we just getting the run around again?

I'm sorry if these questions have been answered before, I've tried to read as much as I could especially in recent postings and I haven't found a lot.

I'm at eagle ridge and will be there for a good while. As far as base housing goes, last time I checked (January) you can definitely get while your hubby's in A school.

thanks for the info! Where can I get the contact number to speak with someone about on base housing? I think it would be nice to be as close to base as possible since we will only have one car. 

I've heard good things about eagle ridge and seen a lot of wives on here live there as well. I really hope I can make some friends in the area so I don't become too much of a recluse!
