For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Can I move to Great Lakes early?
Hi ladies. I've looked around this site and can't find anything that specifically answers my question, so here goes...
My husband has PIR 2/18/11 and has accompanied orders for A school in Great Lakes. I realize that it takes time for the Navy to process everything for our move and for him to Live Ashore. However, my boys really want to be near their daddy sooner rather than later... Is there anyway that we can move up there (travelling very light) and let the Navy move the rest of our stuff when they're ready to? How soon can we get on the base housing wait list? Any answers would be appreciated. Thanks!

You can move anytime you want, as this is a free country.
To have the Navy ship your things later, you will need to leave a power of attorney with whoever will be there for the packout, to sign the inventory. You should be cleaning, sorting, throwing away, selling and donating right NOW. Be sure your place is clean and organized for the move, as the packers can refuse to pack a place they find too messy or dirty. Happened to my friend. He wasn't a great housekeeper and he partied with friends instead of prepping the place for the move. His sailor wife was furious, you can bet!
You cannot get on the base housing list until he checks into his A school. While you can get on the list early with some orders, the ones to school commands don't allow for that option. You can look up the Great Lakes housing office and speak to them directly, they can tell you the policies, or where to view them.

My husband said his A school will be long enough for the navy to move me up there.
he's a grad and go and will be checking into his a school after PIR, would we be able to talk to the housing office the weekend i go up for his ceremony?
