Ok, so my hubbs is just a couple weeks away from finishing FC A-school and I'm starting to get that impatient itch, wanting to find out where we'll be going next haha. So I thought it'd be interesting to see how long it took others to get their orders after their hubbs/sons/bfs/fiances finished A-school. Did you get follow-on orders for your PDS? And also, did they get what they put on their dreamsheet? Now that they're doing it with the dreamsheet, does their class rank do anything for getting what they ask for?

My husband graduated in April and we just got orders today! :D Going to Dam Neck, VA for C school.

What!? Holy Moly! That's actually pretty fast, all things considered. Do you know when you guys PCS? What system did her get? Was it what you guys wanted? Congratulations by the way! Kind of beats having to sit around for ages and ages. Any insight on how/why he got his orders so soon rather than waiting until the beginning of the fiscal year (Oct.)? Thanks so much for sharing with us :) and congrats again!!

I don't know why he got them this early but we are leaving Sept 12th, I believe.  He got NATO Sea Sparrow which I guess is what he wanted because it is a 6 month C school and I (being preggo with our first kid) wanted to go with him so he could be there.  He should be finishing up right around the time the baby is born so it worked out perfectly!  Some one said they had orders made up to a certain point but they were just waiting for them to drop...and sure enough they did!  Or at least some of them did.

SOOOO excited to be at VA Beach!

PS- he is an FC.

If anyone else is still waiting for orders for C school - they are cranking yet another round out. My husband graduated about a month ago and a few people in his class just got orders. The class before him received some orders as well. That seems really fast (i.e. too good to be true), but I guess it's in the Navy's best interest to keep the sailors working instead of sitting around for half a year. Just an FYI to anyone that is curious :)

Another update for anyone that is still following or finds this in the future - my husband finished A school in July and his whole class (everyone but him and another sailor) got orders today, leaving very soon. He thinks he'll be getting his very soon too. Seems like they're starting to turn stuff around quicker than before!

Where was the FC school? I understand they no longer have FC in GL.

FC A school is in Great Lakes. Then, depending on the system, there are FC C schools in San Diego, Dam Neck and Dahlgren.

Thanks. I appreciate your answer!!

question to you wives...you were on your husband's orders for A school...how does C school work. If C school is under 20 weeks were/are you on his order to move with him? Then move again for his permant post?

Any information would be helpful. Thanks

Families can normally move with their sailors if the school/assignment is more than 6 months. Though, there are cases when sailors get unaccompanied orders, even if it is more than 6 months. I think those are for areas that generally don't allow families (I'm guessing, Guantanamo ... or something like 7 month orders overseas) In the case of FCs, their A school is about 7 months. So the Navy authorizes the sailors to fill out paperwork to move their families right after bootcamp (the paperwork and set up normally takes about a month).

It's the same situation for C school. If a C school is more than 6 months, families will likely be able to go. My husband's C school is 7 months, and we got about a month's notice to move, so we'll be able to move together which is a total blessing. When he gets his permanent duty station, I'll move with him there as well - unless it's one of those unaccompanied orders. Though, I think that's pretty rare.

I'm not sure if there are exceptions to the rule about orders that are under 6 months. I don't think there are really. Though, after a month of separation, they sailor would start receiving separation pay - $250 a month. I think if a C school was only 20 weeks, the sailor would have to go unaccompanied, and then his family could move with him to his permanent duty station. That's just my guess. Though, there's nothing stopping you from moving yourself. You'd still be able to have access to military housing I believe. And you still recieve BAH. The physical moving would be at your cost. And I also am not sure if they would permit your sailor to be 'live ashore' or live at home if his orders said he should be unaccompanied. That's all stuff he'd have to ask his command about.

hey! if by chance it was under the 20 weeks, and you weren't having a paid move for c school, you could always get a furnished apartment/condo/townhome.  that's what we're doing for c school and then just have our stuff moved from our H.O.R. to our PDS :) saves the hassle too!
