For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Seaman to Admiral program
Seaman to Admiral program is an opportunity for very motivated enlisted sailors to go from the enlisted program to the officer's program.
The applications are very involved and are due in by July 1st, the process takes a few months and in November about 200 candidates are selected for the STA-21 program. For those that make it, they attend the NSI (Naval Science Institute) for eight weeks and then they enroll into a college for the Bachelors Degree. They must attend school year round and must be able to complete their degree within 36 months.
It is not unusual for it to take a few years of applying to be selected for the program. As part of the application process, the sailor must submit high school transcripts, college transcripts, certified ACT/SAT test scores (within three years of the test) a letter of recommendation from the CO, they also have to go thru a screening process, board, etc. to be considered.
If a sailor is selected they will continue to receive their enlisted pay and benefits while attending college and will receive up to $10,000 for tuition and books per year upon completion of their degree, they will reenter the Navy as an Ensign and must extend their agreement for an additional five years.
It's a great opportunity for those that are motivated to continue their education and make the Navy a career.

I'm still learning information about this program but our son is working on his application package for this year's selection process. He has been advised by his ship to prepare the package and be prepared to KEEP applying until he is selected. Met a family recently and her son was selected last year and is just started NSI in May. It took him four applications aka four years to make it into the program.
