Izzy, in order to have the Navy pay for your move to his first duty station, you must be married before he receives that set of orders.  Since you are not married now, the Navy will not pay to move you up to Great Lakes during his school.  You can move up there on your own, but until you are married, he receives no housing allowance for you.  Once married, he can ask permission from the school to live off base with you.  Mostly they allow it, if he has earned his liberty privileges, is doing well in school, and has no discipline problems.

Once he is at his first command, he can sleep off base if he chooses, but he will not get money for housing unless he is married. (too soon to talk about being an E-5).

He will not get leave to come home to get married.  If you look in the Girlfriends/fiances/wives group, you will see many discussions about ladies going to the A school base and marrying at the courthouse well before A school ends.  They do this to be included in that first PCS move.  Otherwise, they sit at home until the move can be arranged, or in case of overseas orders, until they can get command sponsorship.  It gets complicated.

Sailors are instructed not to marry PIR weekend.

"So trying to figure out trends will only rack your brain." So true Angie, I tell them this all the time. Lol The miltary doesn't make much sense to a civilian mind. You have to think a  whole new way.

I know from being an Army brat.

Lizzy, Recruits get their job around the 5th week of boot camp. They are given the opportunity to change if they like. At least my son was given the opportunity.  His Chief asked him if he really wanted to be FC. He said that he did, so that is what he was given.

Students can only get leave during the Christmas Stand Down while at (A)school.. Or if a relative dies like a brother, sister, parent and sometimes grandparent.

Stand Down ie Christmas break.
