Karen, you are hysterical. Happy as a clam in a dumpster.
Mabel, I am interested in the reenlistment. Because of the new military cuts, my sailors reenlistment bonus is reduced from the 75,000 to 20,000. Naturally, it was one of the main reasons he enlisted in the first place, it looked like a great future. He was going to reenlist for 20 years, but now.... some large decisions to be made considering what is happening to the military.

Ashley, about the FC in Iraq... I don't know about IRAQ, but I do know there is a possibility after Japan of going to Afghanistan to stay in the camps for SW. Surface Warfare. I guess this is what the blue-green is, I am assuming.

That was a smart move Maddie, set up a group for the Dunham...others will follow. You maybe lonely for awhile but others will start get their orders and catch up to you. Does the ship have a website yet? I love checking out the ship's site and learning about the history of their name and even for a ship still in construction there is often some good info.

It seems like we should be seeing some A school graduations soon from this group and we have lots of ETs here, it seems like they almost always get their ship orders at the same time...so we will be watching for the USS Dunham,

General Quarters is the call to battle stations. Everyone drops what they are doing, heads for their station, the hatches are dogged down ... and so on. The ships pull these drills now and then, unexpectedly. Yes, no one goes on or off the ship. GQ varies in length. I never had the pleasure.

He was probably cleaning the inside of the dumpster. The Navy can always find something for a sailor to clean, LOL.

Welcome to the group Maddie! We have lots of ETs and many are in C school or about to enter one and they have their ship orders as well. When is his ship due to be completed? How exciting that he will be a ...plankowner!

Yes, Mabel...many of us hear similiar things from our spouses! My daughter likes to call the folks here my "imaginary" friends however she attended a lunch with me in Savannah on Saturday and found out...there are some really great friends here and I have been blessed to meet a number of them live and in person and we talk on a regular basis. So yes...those Navy moms!!! Congratulations to your son on his reenlistment! That one puts him at the 10 yr. mark...makes the next decision - really critical.

Kellie, I'm a tad slow tonight but I'm trying to connect/remember where Mickie might be able to go to C school and stay for his duty station. If his school is in Norfolk or San Diego, there certainly are schools and ship yards -

Yeah, I guess it all depends on the school. My step-son is in radiology in the army.

You can transfer in the middle of getting a degree, I did it. Sure it slows things down, but completing it is not impossible. Best of luck!

C school usually doesn't count as time at a duty station, that's a separate thing.
Comment by Anti M on March 5, 2009 at 7:00pm
Okay, duty stations ... this is JUST a rule of thumb, every real situation varies as we all know.

Two years unaccompanied, three years accompanied. Some commands allow a sailor to extend their tour for 12 months.

But then there's all sorts of exceptions, like isolated duty on Diego Garcia (12 months).

Don't quote me, LOL.
