Unless I am completely wrong ... LOL at me.

Mary, you mean rank , not rate. Things work differently after C school than A school, a lot will depend on the detailer. When my C school was over, a lot rode on the dream sheets too ... but again, that varies so much there's no way of telling how it will go. Class standing, seniority, I don't know what all they're using as criteria these days.

The Navy has E-4 housing in place in Yokosuka, so it isn't out of the question to send families.

Hey Nancy! Yeah - he is prepared for anything, even said ...all the orders now seem to be for ships in Norfolk.......that is probably at the bottom of his wish list but you know how rumors go and more importantly what the Navy needs are when it's time for his orders. It will be ...what it will be :-0

Anti M - I probably didn't word that one too well! What I'm trying to remember or clarify is...a sailor can go overseas but will his family be able to be on the orders if......they have x amount of children or below a certain rate (?)

Nick has always wanted Japan, the only sailor that he is really competing against has children. Both will be an e4, difference is Nick is single - if their gpa is the same...and there is only one set of orders to Japan...
okay why am I ever thinking of this now????????!!! He's still has a long road in front of him! Just curious!

Mary, when I was in, a sailor could get orders overseas even if he/she had more than threee kids, but they had to be of a certain rank. E-4 or E-5, and even then, the family might not have been on the orders. We had a few unaccompanied radiomen who were just starting out, their wives and sometimes a child or two were back in the states.

My Air Force brother, who was an E-6 with eight kids, got orders to Korea. He was sent unaccompanied, for either 12 or 18 months. Just because they won't send the family does not equal not sending the military member.

Ashley, he will get the letters eventually. I had two different addresses for my nephew, one with a building number and one with a ship, and they were essentially the same address.

Thanks, Hoppi, sometimes I forget these are primarily student sailors, not fleet sailors.

Ashley - not sure about the requirement for the form letter, I know back in the day that hubby was in boot camp (LONG time ago!!) he was required to write one once a week and...he also was REQUIRED to write a thank you letter to his recruiter when he hit boot camp...not sure what the requirements are today. Did he live with G-ma? She maybe listed as his "home of record"

He will get the letters Ashley but use the address he sent g-ma going forward

Welcome Gayle, Nuke ETs have a different schools etc., then the surface ETs so our conversations in this room may confuse you but you are welcome to hang with us!

Nice photo Helen, I can see you beaming from here :-D

Checking out that SDC group!

Anne, like Anti M - I had to do everything thru the airforce base back in my day - they were very accomodating but your hubby has to have his page 2 completed first.

Nick is doing extra stuff with the honor guard/rifle team at his school, I think he is hoping it will help him with those "dream" orders but he has received one benefit already...he is getting moved from a 4 day to an 8 day duty as he practices with the team a couple of times per week.

Hoppi - question for you, it used to be to be stationed overseas, a sailor was restricted to the US if they had over three (?) children unless they were a certain rate due to the expense. Do you know if this is still the case or was imagining this???

Charlotte, the volunteer work does go on her record, at least that's the way it worked when I went in. Then it goes on her evaluation, which is a good thing when it comes to advancement. Hoppi will tell me if I'm out of date on that.... things change, which is the only thing which does not change.

Your husband needs to talk to his chief or PO about some certain time off to do the paperwork. He can always put in a special request chit for a few hours of liberty to take care of family matters, and then you would know exactly what day he'd have off. Mailing the original documents is indeed too risky.

Once the child is on his page two and enrolled in DEERS, Tricare is easy. You can use the Air Force base later for a lot of things, we're retired Navy and get our ID cards renewed at the nearby AFB.
