Helen, you speak some good words and hopefully those that joined for the wrong reasons will be flushed out or will quickly learn to respect the oath they have taken and become a great sailor.

Nancy dear - so happy for James! I'm sure he is delighted to get back to his "real" job. It amazes me that they can take a sailor from a technical field for three months and not expect it to impact them. The first week Nick landed at his C school, they gave him "refresher" studies immediately so he did not lose anything he learned in ATT while waiting for his new classes to begin but they can go work in the mess hall for three months?!!! But this didn't just start yesterday so guess it's been proven to work...

It's not just the carriers that gets cranking duty, Nancy's son is on a ship with 300 sailors (?) When my FC hubby reported to his first ship - he was scheduled for cranking duty way back then but his ship was just coming out of the yards and the contractors for the equipment was on board with them and their Captain said...the FCs will NOT be pulling cranking so he escaped that Navy experience :-)

It is true that the RDCs were reading the boards in the past and may still be reading them today. My thought was it typically was the boot camp forum but they certainly have free access to all forums just like you and I do.

Love the exchanges that we are able to share but by all means - NEVER say anything that would jeopardize your sailors' future. They have worked too hard to make it this far :-)

I think that advice is right on - keep your eye on the prize. They learn from the first day of boot camp about teamwork - good or bad. Is it fair? Well - that is a different conversation but I don't think what he is reporting to you will be long lived.

Okay - I know what you have heard is of concern but let me tell you (like it or not) it is not the first time that this has happened and it won't be the last. They are trying to send a very loud message that ARIs will not be tolerated - nor is thefts. Does that mean they can stop it 100% - no. Will liberty be cancelled...possibly. Will they be on lock down...possibly. Will school be suspended...unlikely. They may pull school on a short term basis if they are doing a room by room search and need the sailors there for the search process but classes are already backed up enough and they need to move them thru school or boot camp sailors get more backed up; C school gets inpacted and bottomline - the fleet will get impacted as well. It is such a trickle down effect.

Try not to be too alarmed - there are alot of rumors that come out of GL. Not trying to say these are rumors by any means but often they will try to issues the most severe announcements, lockdowns, school on hold, etc. and that maybe the case on the short term while they are trying to get their hands on the situation.

Tell your sailor - just be where they need to be, do what they need to and this will pass. We seen alot of these types of things the past year. I am not down playing any of your concerns but just know the Navy is not going to hold off on the classes for long.

Yes, I think they really hold the Ship of the Month up as the ...ship to be!

Ben's Gram, sorry to hear about the migranes - those are not good under any circumstances. Has he started his classes yet? I wonder if stress is effecting him - did he have migranes issues before?

Karla - been watching the weather and thinking of Ryan all day, keep us posted.
Millye - how nice Claire had a travel buddy to MS, it is probably such a heatwave there today compared to GL.
Jackie - you will have to give us a report on RAP duty.
Nick started his classes at C school today :-D

Sad to say folks but too frequently their are ARI at the ships in GL, they actually reward them if they go for 30 days with no ARIs. Nick's ship received bbqs two months in a row for no incidents. There has been more ARI than there should be but they deal with it swiftly when the situation arises.
