PF - Because we live in the south, we don't get to use things like ear muffs, scarves, gloves TOO often - but we do own them ;-D When we went to GL for Nick's graduation in December, it was -7 degrees so thought it was a great time to go thru the boxes and get the winter gear out. When we take Nick to the hotel that night and he is taking off his scarf and gloves, he lays them down on the desk next to hubby's gloves - 20 years later the old FC is still using his Navy issued gloves. Some things they must make very well... gloves, sailors, etc. LOL!

Why is my sailor an ET or an FC? Well I asked and we may never really know - here is a response from an FCC who is now an active duty NCC...

At 7:37am on January 24, 2009, NCC(SW) Shane Stec, Recruiting Supervisor, SIerra Vista, AZ said… I am not really sure how they decide which recruit goes ET or FC. We are told that it is part needs of the Navy and part what the recruit wants but that apparently is not the case.

I asked a couple of other people and they didn't know either.

I guess it is one of those Navy mysteries that may never be figured out.

Change of Command Helen - means there is a new sheriff in town!!

Yahoo Claire - she is going to love the weather. However the only thing they have in Biloxi seems to be casinos and Waffle House(s)!! I was there in April to visit my nephew and had the pleasure of taking him and his family to Waffle House for the first time...it was an experience! Even took photos of them in those Waffle House hats sitting at the counter :-D.

Hosting a GA mom gathering today so I'm out of here but get to spend some time with a couple of FC moms :-D photos to come!

They actually sign a contract for the AECF program which guarantees them either the ET or FC rate. What we don't have a clear answer on is - what is the deciding factor on why my son is an FC and yours maybe an ET.

Both are great rates at the end of the day but I am curious as how the coin is flipped on this one. I did email one of the FCC recruiters that I know to see if he could shed some light on this one.

Hoppi, monitors her comments but is alway good about getting back to us but she is working during the day. There is an FCC in the recruiter room that is part of our site, I might send an email to him. Bottomline is...what the Navy needs...the Navy gets. I am curious as to why recruit A gets ET and recruit B gets FC but both are good rates and have six year enlistment program - they should also have same enlistment bonus. My hubby did `10 yrs as FC and many of our friends retired from FC world and have been...nicely employed since so I'm 100% good with our son going FC road plus it is alot of fun listening to father and son conversations! But my curoristy is still peaked and will try to get the answer for you. Although Hoppi is on staff at GL, not sure she has the answer to this either but she may know the right folks to ask.

Hi all, been a tad under the weather the last few days and just thought I'd stop by and say a quick hello...my you have been busy members!!!

13 weeks of bootcamp huh? I've heard those rumors but...it seems like rumors are so rampant at A school. I would think merging SCC into boot camp could make some sense but that would only add a couple of weeks... our sailors will be happy to say got my boot camp done!

It would be wonderful to see them bring instructors back from A school, I personally think it would benefit the students but that would be a major overhaul and probably will take years to implement once approved.
