That's sad story Helen, I'm sure Matt was sad too that his papa was not there to share that special day with him.

My MIL recently sent my husband's division picture to us, it was from 1982 and it looks different than Nicks! I remember crying when the Navy said no more facial hair. I knew my husband for 13 years and never seen him without a beard!

Yeah, I've seen how the Navy changes and changes ... but some things never change much at all. You should have heard my dad when he came to visit Yokosuka, and I know it has changed a lot since I was there. I bet Glakes is really different ... I went to boot camp in Orlando, that's not even a base anymore.

Mary, I think Section Leader may be right. When I was in boot and A school ,the Navy was still using Army terms ... Battalion, Company and Platoon. Division and ship make far more sense, although calling a barracks a ship makes me grin.

One of my pending blogs is barracks roomies ... I had some doozies as well as some who became lifelong friends.

Ky - I hope that Sierra finds those days are way behind her. The A school students have too much to focus on and many of them are at school both day and night session. No time for games now.

Oh Anti M, I think I will send you and my husband on a field trip to GL!!! When we were there for Nick's PIR, he was like...wow...that used to be or ...my barracks is gone now...and what happen to ______...Navy is all about tradition but fortunately...somethings DO change!!! LOL

Platoon Leader = Section Leader (?)

Wish I could see the barracks ... they sound dreadfully familiar. We didn't call them ships then. My room overlooked the chow hall loading dock, back when the civilian contractors stole all the good food. Later I was a platoon leader (what do they call that now?) and I got a room facing the courtyard. Four heads per floor.

I've heard the ETs have a new barracks... but hard to tell from my friend's description.

It will all be good Kellie! I used to hate it when my hubby had to return from leave I always thought he left way too early...even if he took the last possible flight!

Hey ky - nice to see you. Generally they move to a different ship after SCC but I use the word generally very cautiously! She probably is on the Franklin. Not as nice as some of the other ships.

Welcome to another new member ---- Rae Ellen!!! Her hubby is an FC on the Rodney Davis and that is currently deployed and she is pg with their first baby!!

I hear ya Kellie - I know some of the "girlfriends" get texts before their sailors even open their eyes in the morning! I used to have a sailor like that...then he became my husband and now it's an occassional phone call to see...if our kids have called!! LOL

Our sailor did call and say that it SNOWED last night but it melted.

Class up - does mean they have a school start date! Which is very exciting for a sailor if they have been on hold!

For the FC program Toni, they start with indoc and then go to SCC (basic seamanship classes) for about two weeks (usually held at night) and then they move to ATT (aprrentice technical training) for the FCs - they do about half of the ATT program and then go to A school, when they complete A school they go back to ATT. This allows their technical training to be fresh when they report to C school. Our son has a grad. date from the program of Dec. 2nd as an FC, he basically has a couple of days left of school and if the computers cooperate this week he should be done. He has picked his orders for C school and we are just waiting to hear if they are going to hold him in GL for a bit or send him to C school early. We know his classes don't begin until late Jan. but it sounds like GL would like his space. Either way, A school will be behind him very soon and we expect to see him for Christmas.

For ETs - they start ATT and finish ATT before going to A school.
