Jackie - Neese's son is homeported in Mayport so she gets down to J-ville. It would be nice if you got a chance to meet.

Wish you were all closer - Neese and I got to visit today! The world is getting smaller...our sons went to the same high school (a few years apart) our daughter has lifeguarded in her neighborhood just down the street for the past four years and both of our sons are FCs! It was wonderful meeting one of our moms, and learning about the path that her FC son has been on - she has some great photos of his ship that I hope she can post for you to see.

This week Neese, next week Nancy...next month.......heck who knows?!!

I thought the exact same thing MIllye, but I think he wants it. I will put it to him and see how he feels. He did call me asking which apples are the best and sweetest right now, he was buying some - and said bye, thanks, and I said, - WHOA HOLD ON! He says he's been looking at maps now and thinking about how he might go. (thank you Jesus). I've had some great moms offer in AZ and Nebraska. I have a cousin in Missouri and an Aunt in Denver. We might be able to hook him up pretty good - NO REST STOPS - is he even thinking how cold it will be to sleep in a car? DUHHHHH NO!

Millye - that is a great suggestion, I'm sure there are plenty of sailors that would love to pick up a car at GL.

CCR - you just might find that Patrick has everything all laid out and just wants to handle it. Before Nick went to boot camp last year, he had a g-friend at Temple University in Philly and he drove from Atl to Philly - never had he made a real road trip. It was about 13 hours, in the winter. Mama here was a tad freaked but he did take my GPS but I also found that he had mapped the road trip out 3 or 4 ways. Sometimes they just want to do it...their way.

Welcome Jay! You must be here in the South (?) Our daughter was registered to Auburn, we made a number of trips there and then decided to go to a small college. She is at GA Southern, most of her classmates went to Auburn but then again, she graduated from a class of 40...so a smaller college just seem to fit her well. Read the job descriptions above and let us know what questions you have.

Congrats Mary, HB to John today! Well, I can't help my son anymore. I've begged for him to let me know his route he is taking (everyone else is flying, so no car riders). He says he has a gps and will just "go". I said you have to get a map and plan your route so you can figure out what city and I can hook you up with an adopt a sailor mom.
He says he will pull over in a rest area to sleep. I told him it was a 35 hr trip and he says Navy allows him 6 days. I told him it was dangerous to pull over and he needed to get hotels or let me find him a Navy mom.
This is what he said today. I think I'm gonna have to get Millye and whoevers gonna be in GL for Thanksgiving to give him a good talking to. He certainly won't listen to me.

hmmmmmmm...now don't you find "middle of nowhere in a corn field" somewhat reassuring to an old mom ?!!!

Congratulations Neese - woohoo...2nd class!!! That's the way to start his married life!!!

Thanks for the info on Dahlgren as well - I just understand it's in the middle of nowhere. My hubby used to teach C school @ Mare Island and always said C school is night and day different than A school as you have Sailors returning from the fleet including Chiefs in the class and they just treat them better.
