Hi Tina, welcome to the group! We have some great ET moms to help you along the way but their training at GL for FCs and ETs is the same - just different modules.

Did you leave your son's cell phone with him? That might help, they are able to call frequently. He is probably in indoc classes this week and then will go to SCC for two weeks (basic seamanship class) it seems to always be held in the evenings, like 3 - 11 pm. When that class is done, he will move to a new ship and start his ATT training. It is a long road for sailors in this group!

Welcome Sharon, glad that you have found us!

There have been alot of ARI issues (achohol related issues) can never spell that right! There was a drug overdose recently from a sailor who was off base for liberty and just stuff going on. After the overdose the base went on lockdown for a while so no one had liberty and the sailors all had safety training classes and they seem to really be cracking down on the drinking, especially under age.

If your son remembers why he is in GL and keeps his focus on his school, he will do fine.

Karla's son has not been in Phase I for 11 months, he recently PIRed as well but it sounds like one of his roommates has been in phase 1 for a very long time. Chances are he was phase II and got sent back to phase 1 or perhaps he never did what he needed to move into phase II.

Wow Karla, lots going on for Ryan! I do hope that Ryan gets to see his son, that is the hardest part of being in the military. Even if something happens and liberty gets cancelled, I believe you can get a visitor pass and go visit with him on pass everyday, he just cannot leave.

I know he must be excited to start A school - he should also be moving into a new ship as well. Congrats to him on getting ATT behind him! Hope the weekend works out well for all of you.

Geez, we have talked to our son two days in a row! Think GL is starting to get old, he's not complaining but for him to call and such long calls makes me believe he is restless!

He did say that the Cole is earning another bbq this month for making it 30 days with no incidents. This will be the second month in a row that they have earned the bbq. I think that is pretty impressive considering all the issues that have happened at GL this summer.

He made me chuckle, he was doing his ironing (I asked for photos!) and was going to bed early as he expects a drug test is coming up soon (again). Said he seen alot of sailors with stamps on their hands today, which apparently is proof that they drug tested.

Sounds like wedding bells in your future Kellie? It could be our first AE/CF wedding!!!

Kellie, he won't qualify for housing while he is in A school. As far as getting married, he should probably ask his LPO. I'm hearing different things lately, like they have to ask permission or put in a chit but I don't know what the actual requirement is. I have seen a number of sailors that have been getting married recently either after A school or perhaps even during A school so I don't think they tell them no but I think they are supposed to request permission just the same.

Millye, Millye - smart momma, make plans for Labor Day! I know Claire will be excited to have you!

Lynn Dear, we lived in the North most of our lives and really don't miss the snow, ice, etc. but seeing your photos of Alaska ALMOST make me want to say...let's do it! Typically we go to the Carribbean or Mexico for vacations to enjoy the sun and water but maybe one of these days.

Jackie, I know how you feel about him making that trip by himself so I'm going to tell you two things.

1-75 is under heavy construction but only on the weekends and I suspect that he may have to either take a detour around it or it cuts down to ONE lane. They are already talking about their concerns for Labor Day weekend. The construction will go on as normal and there are a couple of major sporting events that weekend on top of the typical holiday traffic. It may just slow him down a bunch unless he takes 285 around the city.

Other thing is - if he would be comfortable with it, I could ask Nick if he can get leave that weekend as well and they could car pool back to GL together. They could split the costs and get to know one another and he won't be by himself. Yes, I would mind see my sailor either!
