Kellie, welcome to FC land. You can tell him he will be in the "Fox Division" that is the name of the division when they are on a ship. My husband was an FC for 10 years and our son has been in school since April for FC so if you have any questions, just ask and we can usually get answers.

Talked to be FC today, sounds like a laid back day for him but he was doing his laundry (oh how I love the Navy!!). Asked him if he heard anything about delays or holds for the FCs or ETs and he has not heard of any holds for these rates, new Sailors are reporting to his class almost daily.

Kellie, guess I could say they will be seeing the blue oceans but what I mean by grey...is their ship!

Beautiful photos Jackie, how sweet of ya'll to take your dad along on the 25th! Those are some mighty big fish!

Kellie, I think Nancy addresses your questions well, and getting used to the "not knowing" is part of our lives now. For our FCs, I think after spending almost two years in school, both the Navy and the Sailors are anxious to see them on ships! They may not necessarily be deployed depending on the ship's schedule but they definitely will be seeing grey soon after C school.

Susan, alot of folks including me - thought they graduate from bootcamp and start A school immediately but it is a process and I'm wondering when your son says that he has met someone waiting for five months, is it because they are in the pre classes?

Indoc and SCC take about three weeks but many sailors go on hold, our son was on hold for four days. Then he immediately started ATT classes, depending on your son's rate ATT can last a few weeks to a few months. When our son completed his ATT, he started A school the very next day.

I can't help but wonder if your son is referring to a sailor that is in ATT still and anxious to get to A school. The "real" A school can take months to start but it's usually because of the other classes that they have to take first. All of these are factored into their time at GL.

It seems like there have been alot of FCs and ETs coming out of boot camp just recently so it's possible that the classes are full but with this program, the classes are self-paced so they do not need to wait for a new class to start - they have new students coming in everyday. It's just a matter of them having a computer open for each Sailor.

Jackie maybe able to shed some better light since John is an ET as well and he is in A school.

OMG LynnDear, Welcome back - been thinking of you. What a trip you had! A new daughter in law and a grandchild in the works?!! Congratulations, What a year for your family! Sorry to hear about your bio dad, what a week of emotions for you lady. So glad to have you back at home. Have you had a chance to catch up with Wade? How is he doing?

Nick is due to grad. on Nov. 17th but on our recent call he was thinking that he could be done as soon as October. He's been doing a lot of the evening sessions so they maybe paying off.

Are you giving any thoughts about attending John's A school graduation? I have mixed feelings, as I expect that he will be taking leave (if time allows) when he graduates so do I want to go all the way to GL when he could be flying home on the same flight as us or ??? Suspect I'll make that decision as it gets closer plus he will be in C school for along time too so I may want to save that travel until then.

Jackie, glad that John is liking A school. Nick seems to be enjoying it much better than ATT as well and we had a long conversation on Wed., than C school will be even better. More hands on, more focused on THEIR system, more respect, etc. etc. He is not complaining but I think he is starting to feel like he has been in A school for a long time now. So many Sailors that he PIR-ed with have moved on, had leave and are out with the fleet and I think part of him wishes he was "on the job" now. We found ourselves reminding him, it is a good thing that you are still in school and the longer that you are in school...the longer it will take for you to get to a ship. But I think being on ship sounds attractive to him right now. He's been in GL since Feb. and is probably getting a tad restless. Heck, we talked for almost an hour and for our son to be on the phone for an hour with his parents...well, let's just say that is most unusual for him!

He did not mention the Billy Bob concert but he had duty that day so don't know if he got to see it or not.

It seems like they frequently have computer issues in the A school building! My husband always like the smaller ships too Jackie, I think the cruisers only held about 300 sailors, small enough to get to know everyone during a deployment but big enough to get the job done.

Julie, my last note from Sandra - sounded like her son is doing better. Once he was told that he could not transfer to Army, I think he started getting his hands around his class a bit more. She sounded hopeful that it would be okay.

Did anyone hear that Billy Bob Thornton has a band and they played at GL for our sailors on August 10th? I posted some details about it on the main page but I had not heard anything about this event.

Hi Melinda, good to hear that your son is loving his actual job now. I think for so many of them that the A school and C schools are SO looooong that they get anxious to move on. So once they get to really do their job, it is good.

Almost forgot, our son actually asked if we would send him a "care" package. He NEVER asks for anything! But he said so many new sailors are coming out of boot camp are staying in GL now that the Nex and commissary just are not restocking as quick as before. He said it has been difficult to find peanut butter and jelly for example. He likes to keep some of this stuff in his room in case he misses the galley. He was looking for some ramen noodles as well as some sweet and chewy candies. He's been gone for six months and this is the first request that he has actually made. So this weekend, we are working on care packages for our sailors in Afganistan and one for our own sailor in GL!
