Julie...Kyle just called me and asked me to send you this...

Okay...maybe he didn't call me but I'm sure if he had my phone # he would have!!! Enjoy your day, you know your sailor is thinking of you!

Alice, how wonderful for you and those sailors that they got to enjoy dinner with your family. And for the young man who's family did not get to make it to PIR, I can only imagine how much he appreciated your kindness.

FYI...Alice's son is an ET

The train accident...
happened about a month ago, during liberty three sailors were drinking very heavily and was walking across a railroad track, two of them made it across the track before the train came - sadly the third one did not make it.

I bet there are some frustrated Sailors at GL this week. Hoping to hear from ours tonight, he had duty on Saturday so we have not talked since Friday.

Wow Barbara, your son got five days of liberty - how nice! Must be the joys of graduating during a holiday weekend.

I believe (and hope) that they will allow these new sailors to enjoy there weekend. They know so many families come in for the PIR.

It's good to hear about your friend's son last weekend and I have not heard any negative news from anyone that PIRed during this lockdown. I had heard originally it was going to end Aug. 1st but most recently our son said...whenever the Commander chooses, which I thought was probably right on target!

Things can/will change depending on what the current needs are. Our son got the full weekend off as did many that weekend but others had duty and had to report each evening. There are no guarantees and you just don't know until you get there.

They do go into one ship for indoc and SCC and the day they start ATT, they move to another ship for the duration of ATT/A school.

Karyn, here is the phone # and email for Public Affairs...
call RTC Public Affairs at (847) 688-2405, or write to rtc.pao@navy.mil.

They maybe very busy as I suspect alot of families are wondering if this lock down will effect their liberty.

Hey Nancy, the FC students that leave boot camp now and move over to the other side of the base are treated like grad 'n go orders on the day of PIR. They boot everyone out of the graduation hall by 11 am and the new sailors have to pack out of their current ship and move over to the other base. They run more recruits thru boot camp in the summer months and they want those ships empty and clean so they can be ready for the next division coming in.

They run one bus at 12:30 to transport them and their seabags over to the other side. You cannot drive them, they must be on the bus or walk!!!

Once they check into their new ship, they will be told if they have liberty for the full weekend or if they need to report back each night. Some may be scheduled for duty that weekend as well.

We were lucky by 2:30 that day our son called and said he was free for the weekend but he did have to call in at 9 pm and 7 am each day for muster.

The RTC side is ALWAYS on lockdown! Graduation ends at 10:30 and by noon he will be back at his ship getting ready to load the bus to the "other side". I have not heard how they are handling the new sailors just checking into the base and they know most of their families are there. I'm sure we will be hearing from some of the PIR families from Friday so that should get us a clue what to expect. The other option is to call the Public Affairs and ask if the lockdown is still in place at the time of your PIR - will it impact your son's leave as well?

So glad that you explained what an ARI is Jackie!!! Sadly it sounds like the message is not getting thru to a number of them, that is alot of arrests in a two day period. Those computers in classes could be mighty busy with so many sailors hanging around base! Nick had duty on Saturday but last we talked to him and asked if he knew how long the lockdown would last, he said...until the Commander says it is over!!!

Lynn Dear, we are so happy to hear that Wade will be losing that cast and able to continue on with his classes. I'm sure Wade is even happier!
