For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.

**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Comment by Anti M on March 22, 2018 at 12:38pm: I was in communications as an ET, secure voice broadband and crypto systems, roughly. Top secret stuff, which kept me very busy at times, and that gear is all obsolete now. The rating is very broad when it comes to electronics, some ETs do more than one type of job (my husband did both radar and comms and more). I went to at least six C schools in nine years, although two were for micro-miniature circuit board repair. Communications, test equipment, antennas, and yes, radar. The STGs work on sonar, not the ETs. There are also ETs who train for submarines, and ETs who train for nuclear power systems, but they go to different A schools entirely.

Comment by ellen0502 on March 22, 2018 at 11:55am: Bandmom, My son, also an ET, was also sent to C School for communications in 2012. They have satellites etc., that also need tending to. It's just another specialty for your son to know how to work on.

As an ET, you’ll be responsible for maintaining, repairing and adjusting a huge range of cutting-edge electronic equipment. You may work with equipment used for everything from communications, detection and tracking to recognition and identification, navigation, and electronic countermeasures.

Does that still fall under ET? I thought he would be working with Radar, sonar etc. What will he be working on now? Can you tell me?

Comment by Allison on February 27, 2018 at 9:03pm: If he’s expecting a refund, double check for state, many also have some kind of grace period, but Federal is up to 3 years to file. This is only if he’s getting a refund.

VITA is also available at overseas duty stations. Military also get a free license to turbo tax…doesn’t necessarily help deployed sailors, but it’s good info for future reference or for others whose sailors are not deployed.

Comment by Anti M on February 27, 2018 at 8:11pm: Every ship has VITA volunteers who help them prepare their returns, and they file them the old fashioned way, through the mail. They can also ask for an extension, up to June 15th.
