A week to PIR, I know you must be SO exciting to see Heather! Really most everything that she will be going thru in GL is the same for ETs and FCs from what I can tell. Their A class is specific to their rate but that is computer driven for the most part and they are in the class with a mix of rates.

They often get confused in bc and don't like to ask questions. If he is ET he will stay in GL, he'll go thru indoc for a week, SCC (basic seamanship) and then ATT (advance technical training) and FINALLY A school! It's a long process! Our son started school back in April and we think he will be done sometime in November.

Karyn, two weeks in GL? I don't know all of the ET A schools but I thought they were just in GL. Hopefully another mom has more knowledge for you.

Update on Julie - mom of Kyle. Some of you may know that Julie had been dealing with some real weather issues in Iowa and at the same time her son was due to graduate from A school as an FC and she wasn't sure she could get out of Iowa to attend the ceremony. She has been missing from our site for weeks now and some of us were very concerned.

Happy to report that she is back! Kyle did graduate as an FC and is heading to VA for C school, they were able to be there for his graduation. She is back in Iowa now with computer issues plus her daughter and grandchild is with them as they were impacted by the Iowa storms and are staying with Julie.

She will be back on the forum with us soon but in the meantime...please send your Congratulations to our newest FC...Kyle!

Use the US post office but insure the package. Do not spend $$ overnighting. They have to go pick up their mail and the hours are limited and so everyone that has spent extra $ on overnight has found that their Sailor doesn't get the package for 3 or 4 days anyways. The couple of packages that I have sent so far via regular mail has always reached my son in just a few days.

Welcome JoAnn and Karla - so glad that you have joined us!

Ummmm Karla, our son graduated over two months ago and I can still seeing him rolling his eyes at all of my "new found" knowledge from this site! On the flip side, he has picked up the phone and asked a few times...can you ask "those" moms....

Jennifer - so happy that you are joining us. You will find every stage here from DEP to sailors with 5 + years experience but we welcome the knowledge that you offer to share!

Heavy on the FCs in this group but a number of fine ETs too!

Karyn - your future ET will have school in GL and there are some great ET moms here to guide you thru it!

This should also mean that he will get liberty for his PIR weekend.
