Jackie, I'm not clear on the car policy anymore. I have read on this site (somewhere) that they couldn't have cars until they got permanent duty orders however I do know of other sailors at different bases that have their cars. Our son told us to sell his Wrangler, feels like he will be in school for along while and then off to sea. Anybody need a good looking Jeep Wrangler?!!!

That's a good question CCR, I know the Sailors that went with them but I'm not sure how old they are. Nick is 21. So hoping he wraps up ATT today - he is on that last lesson himself.

Mary, Patrick called Sunday. He's finished up but barely. He was doing really well but the last mods were tricky and he said he just wanted to get through it since he was starting to fall behind, but they told him that particular tricky stuff he wouldn't really be using later on. It was the last lesson I think. He started A school today. Since Patrick now wants me to bring his car to him, I told him about renting a car and he says he cant. He's not 25 yrs old. Did Nick go with someone who was 25?

Welcome to the group Kelly, you will be our second Kelly here! I think the indoc classes lasted about five days and then our son went on "hold" for almost a week before he started the SCC (basic seamanship) classes. During hold they gave them work to do each day from cleaning, landscaping, painting etc. For him SCC was held from 3 pm to midnight. When that was completed he moved into another building and started classes the same day.

They do receive liberty on the weekends. My son is in the "Cole" - it is set up for 4 Sailors. I have not seen it but it sounds like a two bedroom unit with a small kitchen between the rooms and it has a frid and microwave. You can send him a care package but he cannot wear civilian clothes yet.

Communications from that side of the base have been wonderful. Our son calls just about daily to say hello and give us an update on his classes. The ATT classes are self-paced, they have a recommended target date of completion. Our son will be an FC and is hoping to wrap up ATT today and move over to A school.

It's good to have a doctor in the family! Hoping it is a quick recovery so he can carry on with his plans.

That sailor is hurting tonight! I hope it doesn't effect his classes. Not my son - he called today. They rented a car and drove over to Wisconsin Dells, apparently the largest water park in the world (?) he said even the hotels are water parks. It is three hours away from GL, not sure I'm real excited about that but he is 21 now and he's going to be awhile lot further away when he gets deployed, learning to let go! Learning to let go!!!

Keep us posted if your son gets moved, does he start A school on Monday? Nick is expecting to finish ATT Monday and hoping to move right into A school.

CCR - what about Patrick? I think he and Nick are possibly in the same class or at least within days of each other.

Any chance that we have any FCs here that PIRed on 4/25 from division 162?

Just found out that my son is hanging with two sailors from that division one from NY and one from TN (their accents should be fun together!!) Don't want to post last names on the site but if your son came out of div. 162, please PM me.

He'll be sharing - I really sent enough expecting him to do just that. I just didn't know he has grown into vitamins and protein drinks! I remember the days that I used to have to force him to take his Flintstone vitamins and now he is at GNC buying his own!!!

So...taking the lead from some great moms here, our son has been gone since February and I've never sent him a care package yet. Had lots of fun filling it with his favorite stuff...ramen noodles, cookies, pop tarts, hot tamales candies, etc. etc. Just some dry goods so when the galley is closed, he has "stuff"

He called last night to say he received it and wow it was full of so much stuff! But...did I tell ya mom, that I am eating healthy now and in fact go to the gym four nights a week to "bulk up" so really appreciate the goodies but...he did appreciate the shorts and t-shirts that I included in the box.

Don't know about you ladies but he has been gone since February and is due to be there until Novemberish and I'm really missing the kid even though we get to talk frequently. We maybe making a roadtrip to GL in early fall.
