My daughter graduated from the dli last month and is heading to Ft Gordon tomorrow for her permanent duty. We have never been to Augusta and she is a bit nervous. Thank you to everyone who has posted information on here!

Hi Shoesymom,

If your sailor is moving on orders, the military will take care of her!  Her current command there will give her the tools she needs to set up transportation of her household goods, whether the military moves them or they can give her the resources to DIY.  She can contact her local Fleet & Family Support Center to get in contact with a Relocation Assistance Specialist if she has any questions.  The base here does provide barracks for single sailors, on-base housing options for families, as well as many options for living off base in the surrounding areas.  Please feel free to get in contact with us via niocgaombudsman@gmail.com or you can find us on Facebook via "NIOC GA Ombudsman" if you have any further questions or concerns or just want further information about the area.  We look forward to meeting her when she arrives.

My Sailor Dtr is to head to Ft Gordon in March or April. Will probably need to find an apartment off base. Any suggestions or recommendations of where and who to contact? Do they plan this before arriving? She wants to drive a new car there, which I see she shouldn't need to register. Will the Navy ship her belongings from Monteray, I hope? Glad to join you all and have learned much already with prior comments.

ambi9821 - The only thing he will need to get on base is his military ID. The base stopped doing stickers for cars around 2010. Only a select few military members need to get central access decals for their vehicles and most sailors do not need them ever.

My son is buying a new car before he leaves for Ft. Gordon.  What is required from him in order to get it registered there?

We will be going down to Fort Gordon in June to see my son. Actually, to bring some of his stuff back home before he changes duty stations because he doesn't want to take everything with him "and you have room for the stuff I won't need mom" lol gotta love the 22 year old mind. But since it gives me an excuse to see where he has spent the past 3 years of his life, not to mention combine the trip with him getting leave so we can take him to tn to see his older sister and have our first whole family vacation together, I am really excited! Anyway, now I am wondering if anyone can recommend a hotel to stay that is close to the base?

We just got back from a weekend visit to see our son, who lives in Grovetown.  Georgia is looking and feeling like spring!  We had a wonderful visit and enjoyed Saturday in Savannah while we were there.  I didn't realize Savannah has such a huge St. Patrick's Day Celebration...it was definitely a party atmosphere.
