I have very mixed feelings on offshore drilling. I am an enviromentalist, I am also very pragmatic. The jobs...easily a million really good paying jobs on oil rigs, means a lot right now to our economy. It also sends a message to the mid East oil giants that we are not sitting on our hands watching them play us on oil prices, we are moving forward with taking care of our own needs for oil and fuel.

C,,,my son said the Army and Marine vets became his buddies, the Air Force guys...not so much! He said one coversation was actually about "going out of the wire"...and the AF guys were incredulous that all the others were out of the wire most of their deployments in Iraq....it was their jobs. But it didn't stop them from bragging to the women about their dangerous deployments to Iraq. Granted, Iraq is dangerous everywhere, but the others were not impressed with their BS.

Thanks for sharing that, Steve. It sums up my son's feelings about serving in the USN perfectly. And welcome to Tom's mom! thanks for finding us! spread the word! we love politics and good conversation here, and lots of good coffee!! with the occasional green tea...

So, a story...my son is an instructor in San Antonio, taking the class with a couple of Army vets, a Marine vet and a couple of Air Force guys. ( I can't say vets because my son says..."they sat in the Green Zone in Iraq, never went out of the wire..." and brag to women about being in Iraq. He was not impressed. ) Anyway, my son is taking his turn at "teaching" and he said a cuss word. The Air Force guy was all upset..."your instructors in your schools in the Navy DID NOT cuss when they were teaching." and my son says "ARE YOU KIDDING? I'M IN THE F#@^&*% NAVY!!"
