I'm new to this page/site however; very excited to be a part of it. I'm here supporting my stepson. He is headed to MEPS today to sign his contract and will head off to Great Lakes in August for basic training. I must admit, all of this is very emotional. I'm excited, scared, nervous, overwhelmed and proud. I personally, am trying to enjoy each and every moment we share of he's remaining youth before he heads out to be a man serving in the US Military.

I want to thank you all for being a part of this page, for the support, strength and guidance each of you bring to the table as we as parents/step parents travel into our own journey’s of the unknown.

Thanks Betsy. Sorry I did not read your message until today busy spending time with the kids till school starts tomorrow.I have been enjoying time with him and his girlfriend. I can't believe we started working with the recruiter in June and it is now August and school is starting. It is wierd buying school supplies and knowing he will be gone before school starts next year.

Hi teddybear,
Congratulations to you and both of your sons. They made very mature choices. I'm sure you are very proud of them.
My son, Adam, signed on with the Navy in February of Senior year. He goes to BC on October 25. It's amazing how fast that time is flying. Enjoy the time that you have with him.

I have a son in the Navy and one that will be going next August. We went to MEPS yesterday and he signed his contract and got his job, now we have a year left with him at home. It seems funny he already has his future lined up when he still has a year left in school. He just told me at least next year at this time the house will be quieter.

My son goes in to the recruiting office every day. He is working out to be ready for MEPS which is coming up soon for him... I asked him if it was voluntary and he said no... gotta make weight. He hasn't signed anything, so all the recruiter said is that he will go to BC sometime around December. So, I am wondering what he will be doing during the time he waits to go, probably not enough time to finish the semester at a junior college.

I don't have any family in the military either so this entire site has been incredibly helpful.... I have spent the last couple of weeks just reading everything in the different groups that I think are most applicable to me. Overall, I think my son has made an excellent decision for him. I am seeing a whole new side to his personality...there is a focus about his future that was not present before

My son has to call his recruiter on Mondays also and attends the Dep meetings one Saturday a month. That's all he's been required to do, so far. He goes to bc in October.

Hi everyone,

My son is scheduled for Boot Camp November 16th. He is currently meeting his recruiter the second Thursday of every month and must call his recruiter every Monday morning. This is all brand new to me and I have no family members in the military. I have so many emotions but I am so very proud of my sons decision to join the Navy. This site is wonderful!!!

Thanks for the information, NRDSEATTLE. When they are finished at MEPS do they go directly into the navy from there? Thanks for any info. you can give me on what to expect. My son is meeting with the recruiter today to get some more of his paperwork in line. I don't know how long that usually takes, but once all that is in order, do they schedule a time for him to go to MEPS? We live in Longview, TX. Do you know where he probably go when he leaves for MEPS?

My question is - When they leave for MEPS are they just gone for the day or how does that work?
