For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

My son just got his BC date.....8/1/2011
Hello All,
I am new to NavyMoms. My son today finally got a job. This has been quite a process. We started this back in Southern California in Feburary. Our son is 17 and graduated from High School in June. He went to MEPS a few times but there were no jobs he was interested in. He was originally going to do Navy Seals, but decided that he wasnt ready for that, yet. At the same time, our family relocated here to Kennesaw Georgia in July. His recruiter was suppose to transfer all paperwork here, but that was a huge ordeal. We restared everything in the middle of September, and today he went to MEPS and got a job. He has always wanted to do something that helps others. His job is Hospital Corpsman. Now I am not real sure what that is, but he is very happy with his choice. He really would like Air and Sea rescue. He was a swimmer and water polo player and he is recording really great times at PST each week. They are still watching for a position to open up but he is happy with what he got.
I am trying to adjust, as this was my last child at home. I know I have some time and am so proud of him, but now being in a new area with no other family than ours, this is harder than I thought!
Sorry for the long post, hoping to connect with others in the area.

We moved here from California as well but that was about 20 years ago and people would ask us ...what do you think of our traffic and we would look at them with blank faces and say...what traffic?! We've been here long enough now to say...geez this traffic!
When does your son report to boot camp? If your son enjoys helping others, HM is a good rate for him - they are also referred to as "docs" once they complete their A school training. -

Thanks for the information, we did go to the Airshow and had a great day.
I agree about the traffic, we are still really new to this so we are still saying "What traffic???"
My son is doing PST's every week and swims every friday. He loves going and feels he is getting to know people and the men in charge think he will be able to get a contract with Air and Sea Rescue so he will be really happy if that works out. His goal is to do the PST's every week, plus he works out on his own so that he is in great shape, which he is in anyways.. Oh to be young again. LOL
