Welcome to our newest members -

We are seeing some beautiful rain at our home this morning and it's pushing those temps down which makes me happy on both counts!

Arlene, you write so beautifully and your pride of your grandchildren is just beaming. Congratulations to your grandson on his engagement, may he have many happy years ahead.

Sailordawgmom - how wonderful! I know your son must be excited to see that flight suit!

Mary H. = There are few grandmas to be in the group now :-) Our first grand child will be born mid December and I think Diane's is due in December too. Like you, ours will be born much too far away ....Watertown, NY but our son in law will be home from Iraq SOON and our daughter will be leaving in a couple of weeks so she will be there for the homecoming event. She's so excited and I'm trying to be!!!!

We have not heard from our sailor since Father's Day --- sure hoping we will soon. Having one deployed is much like bootcamp, you are always wondering what they are doing at any given moment and where are they at. Are they eating okay, are they getting my mail...yep boot camp is almost like training for deployment!

My prayers are with all of you that your children now in boot camp working toward their desire to be part of the Navy. I am a proud grandmother of two navy sailors, one a petty officer and the other E4 still in school and one Coast Guard petty officer. If you kept up with me you will know it was a horrible experience in this 70 year old grandmother seeing my last grandchild off on Jan 13th. I actually thought I would not live to see him ever to get back home for I could not stop crying for at least 6 weeks after he left. Then I started looking forward to traveling from GA to see him graduate. He was in the 900 Division and was the band director. When they came through those doors... him the first leading the band..this grandma smiled, proud and still cried.. when the ceremony was all over with... I was up in the stands a little ways, everyone rushed out to their sailor and believe me, here I came too... but I believe by that time, I was crying out loud trying to reach my grandson.. His mom made it first, but I was right behind her... he hugged me, hugged me saying MeeMaw it is all okay. Well we had 3 days with him and then Sunday night came the time to leave him there at the NEX he said he would walk back to their ship with others going to the same ship that their parents had left also.. it make it easier on them I am sure. I smiled with tears waving bye to him... then we decided to come on home that night and we went and checked out of the motel and headed home, with MeeMaw crying almost all the way home and for another few weeks... He was my baby and I just have not been able to get my mind okay about my grandchildren away. Well, both my other grandchildren have been home for a few days since then, which this helped, but my baby is still way across the states in San Diego and will still be there for a while.. He offered to buy me a plane ticket to go out there but we are hoping he will get home the end of this month. He told us that he knows forsure he will be home for Christmas for 15 days.. He now has a girlfriend from Austin TX who went into service 3 months ahead of him... they are just in love... he bought her a ring and proposed and she has talked with me and seems very sweet assuring me that he wants to see me as bad as I want to see him... But all in all, he is happy and I have to be happy for him, which i am.. he says his life now is amazing... so I feel so much better. I was glad that he found someone to spend time with for being so far from home.. Well now you can see... he is my baby.. But he has really grown up and i am so proud of him.. I just am anxious to see him... So I know how all your parents feel. He has called me when he really was home sick or just down but then it seemed like he has adjusted. He has done a lot of things, seen a lot of things that he would have never got to see or do if he had not joined. Well, i guess I will hand up now and give him a call... oh yes after boot camp you can talk to your sailor often...that does make it better.... Hope you all have a wonderful holiday.... Great celebration of the birth of our Great Country.

Good morning all,
The holiday is almost on us :-) They are having PIR today at GL instead of Friday as it will be a long weekend for the students and staff at GL ...but not for the recruits.

Is anyone getting a sailor home for the holidays? I'm just keeping our fingers crossed that we might hear from our sailor soon.

Welcome smzayas! We have other families in your area :-)

Diane, sounds like a wonderful showers for the grand baby to be!

Hi Ladies! Stopping in briefly to say "hello and keep yourselves cool!" After 18 years, I still can't get used to this southern heat and humidity. Despite the heat, we had a lovely shower for my daughter-in-law yesterday up in Alpharetta. So many nice gifts, some I never would have imagined back in the days when I had my babies! The big task ahead for her and her mom is to ship everything back to their home in WA!

Welcome HamptonsMom and all of our new members.

How awesome that his friend is in the same division as him! Our son and nephew went in a couple of weeks apart and they would pass each other in the hallways or outside and were not even allowed to make eye contact!

It really helps having that graduation date in hand -- something to look forward to. What will he be doing after bootcamp?

Thank you all so much for information. I got the call, the box, and the formal letter. Found out he graduates August 13th and ship 14 div 274 ... best of all, his friend Zack that left with him has the same address. At least I feel better knowing he knew someone there already.

Thank you. I am so proud, nervous, ... you know that whole collection of emotions!
I am counting on the wisdom of mothers who have "been there, done that" to show me the way.
